Turkey Wing Whisk Broom Workshop

Saturday, September 8 12:00 – 4:00 pm

Turkey Wing Whisk Broom Workshop

Broom making was one of the most important and earliest Shaker industries. According to an Enfield manuscript from 1858, this village’s broom industry began in 1795. After the Watervliet Shaker Village improved broom making technology in 1847, the Enfield Shaker Village would go on to produce as many as “2000 doz.” brooms per year. Join our long-time broom making instructor, Larry Antonuk, for an introductory class on whisk brooms. During this session, participants will begin by producing a small mini whisk broom to learn the basics. Then you will move onto the more challenging turkey wing whisk broom, so called because of its distinctive shape. Each participant will go home with two whisk brooms. All materials will be provided.

Cost: $45 per person. $40 for members. Class size limited to 8 so register early!

For more information or to register, call the Museum at (603) 632-4346 or email the Museum at education@shakermuseum.org
