FREE live music! \nJoin us on the lawn of the beautiful Stone Machine Shop on Wednesdays of July and August for some free\, live music! Bring chairs or a picnic blanket and spread out on the lawn and listen to the band play. \nBring a picnic dinner to enjoy or purchase food from the on-site food truck. You’re welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. (State liquor laws prohibit outside alcohol from being brought onto the premises.) \nThis is not a BYOB event. \nLeashed and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join us. \nVending begins at 6 pm and the music starts at 7 pm. The Museum’s gift shop will also be open for visitors to visit either before or during the show. \nIn the case of bad weather\, the show will go on!\nWe will move the concert inside. Lewis and MaryBeth Zamer\, known on stage as The Twangtown Paramours\, have made a name for themselves defying boundaries with their award-winning catalogue of Americana\, Folk\, and Blues anthems. With a slew of accolades for their first three full-length albums\, they’ve earned a loyal following\, balancing serious instrumental and vocal chops with witty stage banter and a lighthearted approach to life.  Their latest album\, The Wind Will Change Again\, is an acoustic Folk record consisting of a collection of songs that the Twangers call their best to date. It was released in January of 2025 to rave reviews\, came in at #1 on the Folk Alliance International Chart\, and had six of the top ten songs for the month of release. \nHit songwriter\, session musician\, and producer Mike Lewis was born in NYC\, but his sound is informed by a mix of experiences across the country’s major music centers\, including NYC\, L.A.\, Austin\, and Nashville. Lead singer MaryBeth Zamer was a fixture in the Washington\, DC club scene for years and preformed with a popular local cover band before meeting up with Mike in 2009.  They released their debut self-titled album in 2010. \nJuly 9th – Never Too Late\nVendor: Enfield Mascoma Lion’s Club\n \nNever Too Late creates Americana and classic folk music performances with rich vocal harmonies accompanied by lively instrumentation. Whether the performance is an outdoor festival or intimate coffeehouse\, Never Too Late fully engages the audience for a fun and memorable experience. All concert donations support the ongoing restoration of the organ. \nAll concerts will be followed by a reception in the Museum Herb Garden (weather permitting) or in the Great Stone Dwelling. \nFlute and Organ Recital\nChristina Jennings & Gail Jennings\nIn great demand as a teacher\, Christina Jennings is Associate Professor of Flute at the University of Colorado Boulder\, and on the\nsummer faculty of Greenwood Music Camp. Director of the Panoramic Flutist Seminar and the Once a Flutist Festival\, both in Boulder.\nGail Jennings has recently retired after 31 years as Organist at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Ann Arbor\, Michigan. Gail attended the Mannes College of Music and the Juilliard School. She has studied organ with Phillip Steinhaus\, Anthony Newman\, and Marilyn Mason. \nChristina Jennings\nGail Jennings\nOrgan Restoration Update\nBob Waters and Richard Nickerson are continuing to address important restoration needs on the Casavant organ in the Museum’s Mary Keane Chapel. This fall and winter they removed and completely rebuilt the wind chest that receives and regulates the air pressure produced by the organ’s electric blower. This included replacing all the original leather work that controls the release of air to the organ pipes. In addition to maintaining the organ’s tuning\, they have been repairing coupling mechanisms that have failed. Unfortunately the Casavant company no longer makes certain replacement parts\, so some aspects of the restoration work requires creative problem solving. We are fortunate to\nhave two craftsmen\, well versed in the intricacies of Casavant organ construction\, caring for this precious instrument. \nThank you for your support of their ongoing restoration work.

He also teaches organ and music technology and works with the choral program at Berry College in Rome\, Georgia. Originally from Roanoke\, VA Wooddell earned his Bachelor Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music and his Masters of Organ Performance at Southern Methodist University. Winner of the 1994 Regional AGO Young Organists Competition in Cincinnati\, Steven has played recitals and served as a choral accompanist throughout the southeast and Midwest of the United States. He lives in Rome\, Georgia with his wife Joy and their three children.\nSteven will be playing works by Felix Mendelssohn\, Cesar Franck\, J. S. Careful consideration of comfort in your outdoor gear is important when creating art in the open air.  Feel free to bring a full plein air kit or for ease & simplicity bring a simple sketchbook with pencil & pen\, or anything you like\, whatever works in your favor. There will be locations that involve light hiking\, which will be noted in the monthly location description. Jay Boucher\, Gary ‘Hub’ Hubbard and friends will be playing what they call Bluegrass Renegade. The original band-mates Jay and ‘Hub’ have been playing together for 48 years. They are offering this concert in honor of their first meeting. Jay wrote the story of their journey down and will share many anecdotes during their performance on the 1st of May. \nThe Story of Breakfast of Champions: \nMay 1\, 1977\, is where this journey started. Mutual friends were hosting a jam session ‘May Day’ party at their house in Enfield Center. So\, my best friend Robby and I headed there with our banjo and guitar to join in. Robby and I had lived together in several places\, and at one point we both made a commitment to each other that I would learn the guitar and he would learn the banjo. So\, we both took some lessons and just started playing\, and playing\, and playing until our fingers bled. We couldn’t get enough of it\, and we were anxious to show our friends some of the tunes we had learned. \nThere were several musicians playing music that day\, but for some reason\, we just seemed to click with two guys name Gary ‘Hub’ Hubbard and Matt Rogers\, who were also good friends who had been playing music together. We had a blast playing at that party with them\, and we left the party with the intention of getting the four of us together to work out some tunes- which we did. \n \nThen there was this Choctaw Festival on the common in Lyme\, NH and we were invited to play a few tunes\, which we gladly did. A guy who was in the crowd for this figured out a way to get in touch with Hub and asked if we would play for a couple hours for a party he was throwing for a bunch of Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital folks at his house on the river in Lyme. \nThis was the launch of what became the Breakfast of Champions\, and for the next five years we tore it up all over the Upper Valley (and beyond)\, bringing in huge crowds and having a ball in the process. We’d also go to bluegrass festivals and compete in the parking lot picking contests and always did very well with those. \n \nWe always practiced at my place on Thursday nights\, as we figured we could always stumble through Friday and then we were onto the weekend. These Thursday night picking sessions became iconic\, and despite a few breaks over the decades while we were all raising kids\, starting businesses\, etc.\, these Thursday night picking sessions are still going stronger than ever! When I reflect on the cast of characters that have been a part of these picking sessions over the last 48 years\, it truly warms my heart\, and really proves that there is power in music that is shared by so many people. The friends we have made and maintained over this span of 48 years is incredible to say the least. \n \n \n \nSo\, on May 1\, 2025\, 48 years to the day when Hub and I first met and played music together\, we want to share some stories\, lots of laughs and of course the music we have been playing all this time. Although the numbers of pickers that have joined in on our Thursday night picking sessions are substantial\, on this night we’ll be introducing you to the core guys\, since we can only put so many people on the stage at one time. These guys all come with their own story\, and I look forward to sharing these stories with everyone. These guys also come with their own unique talents as well\, which will be on display that evening. Most importantly\, these guys are simply the best! We have more fun sitting around the table at my house on Thursday nights\, playing music for six hours or so\, giving each other a hard time and laughing our tails off. We plan on doing a lot of that on May 1st\, so bring your sense of humor with you. \nI’m a huge ‘fate’ guy\, as I have always believed that things happen for a reason. One night shortly after New Years day\, I had this vivid dream that started on May 1st\, 1977\, at the picking session where Hub and I first played music together. The dream carried on through the years\, reliving all the highlights of our musical journey and friendship\, and it ended on May 1\, 2025- at the Chosen Vale Performance Center (of all places)\, with me and my buddies putting on a show to raise money for the Enfield Shake Museum and their new performance center. This is a great venue\, and hopefully this event will expose this place to a lot of musicians throughout the upper valley as a perfect spot for performances of all kinds. The place seats around 300 people\, which fills a big void for venues of this size in the area. \nHaving been involved in the development of the Shaker Village properties since the mid-80’s when the developers purchased the property from the Catholic church\, I find it easy to take this place for granted. However\, this village is a tremendous asset to this area\, and the folks behind the Enfield Shaker Museum have poured their hearts and souls into making this place what it is today. Their recent purchase of the LaSalette property significantly enhances their offerings\, and this new performance center is destined for great things. \nPlease come and join us for this event and help us raise money for a great cause and have a fun time in the process. We are donating our time that night to the Museum and hope that you’ll be in a generous mood that night. This New Hampshire Humanities talk features a hunting club in central New Hampshire and the long history of its inhabitants. \nIn the late 1800s\, the banking\, railroad\, and real estate mogul Austin Corbin returned to his hometown in Newport\, New Hampshire. He built a grand estate and bought out his neighbors’ farms to create an 22\,000 acre wildlife game preserve stocked with boar\, bison\, bighorn sheep\, antelope\, elk\, Chinese pheasant\, and other imported animals. The grounds eventually became a prestigious private hunting park and hosted illustrious guests including Theodore Roosevelt\, the Prince of Wales\, Cornelius Vanderbilt\, Joe Dimaggio\, Rudyard Kipling\, and Augustus Saint Gaudens. This illustrated slideshow features archival images and a discussion of the complicated history and legacy of New Hampshire’s own American Gilded Age robber baron. The talk will also highlight the important legacy of the role the Corbin family and park naturalist Ernest Baynes played in the saving of the American bison from extinction. \nWho is Mary Kroenenwetter? \nMary Kronenwetter holds a doctorate in educational research\, policy\, and administration and has held academic administration and teaching positions at colleges in the United States\, China\, and Japan. Upon returning to New England\, she has worked at historical sites including Historic Deerfield\, Enfield Shaker Museum\, and The John Hay Estate at The Fells. Mary currently teaches for OSHER at Dartmouth and Adventures in Learning at Colby-Sawyer and has recently published the New Hampshire-based historical fiction\, Pauper Auction. \nThis program is made possible by New Hampshire Humanities. Made possible by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council. This program is free and open to the public and will include some light refreshments of coffee or tea and small treats. The program will beheld in the Meeting Room of the Great Stone Dwelling. \nStories speak to us of community. They hold our history and reflect our identity. Rebecca Rule has made it her mission over the last 20 years to collect stories of New Hampshire\, especially those that reflect what’s special about this rocky old place. She’ll tell some of those stories – her favorites are the funny ones – and invite audience members to contribute a few stories of their own. \nWho is Rebecca Rule? \nRebecca Rule hosts Our Hometown on NHPBS. Each program features a different New Hampshire town\, its stories about what makes their town special told by its citizens. \nShe’s been telling stories in New England\, especially New Hampshire\, for many years. She hasn’t visited every town in the Granite State\, but has found her way to most of them — speaking at libraries\, schools\, historical societies\, church groups\, and charitable organizations. She likes collecting stories because “they’re free and you don’t have to dust them.” Our stories are our identity. They hold our history\, our culture\, our heart. \nHer books include N is for New Hampshire\, an ABC book with photographs by Scott Snyder; The Iciest Diciest Scariest Sled Ride Ever!\, a picture book illustrated by Jennifer Thermes; Headin’ for the Rhubarb\, A NH Dictionary (well\, kinda); and That Reminds Me of a Funny Story. SUMMARY:Becoming Wolf Talk with Chris Schadler
DESCRIPTION:Becoming Wolf Talk\nwith Chris Schadler\n2:00 – 4:00 PM\nFree Admission\nAn eastern coyote is defined as much by its western coyote ancestry as by the DNA contribution from the Eastern wolf. Coyotes in the northeast vary physically and behaviorally from its smaller western relative – while still carrying their incredible adaptability. This program delves into the ecology and behavior of this creature\, its indefatigability and how it is the human who must adapt to live with the coyote. \nOn the horizon\, however\, is a native carnivore which fled the northeast during wolf removal and now may be trying to return: The eastern wolf. A look-alike to the coyote\, it has been killed mistakenly for its similarity of appearance to the coyote. We’ll talk about how the wolf and coyote might negotiate a truce in the northeast and how we might do the same. \n  \nMore About Chris Schadler: \nChris earned a Masters in Conservation Biology at Antioch University Graduate School. Her thesis focused on the natural recovery of the Eastern Timber Wolf in Michigan. \nWhile wolf recovery was the focus of her early work\, Chris’ attention shifted to the eastern coyote when she moved to New England in the 1980s. She chose a farm beset with coyote problems to raise sheep and train her border collies. Using sound livestock management and common sense\, she [and her sheep] avoided any predation. \nBeginning in the early 1990s\, Chris taught in the Dept of Natural Resources at the University of New Hampshire and instructed and mentored adult degree candidates in the UNH System at Granite State College. \nChris recently co-founded the NH Wildlife Coalition\, is the NH and VT Representative for Project Coyote and Chairs the Webster Conservation Commission. She continues to research coyote feeding patterns in Coos County and enjoys life without sheep. \nThis event is brought to you by the collaborative efforts of Enfield Shaker Museum and Enfield Public Library. \nComing from a distance? Enfield Shaker Museum invites you to join us for a night of holiday spirit\, connection and great food prepared by Chef Lindsay Smith. \nThe evening will start at 6:00pm with a cheese board and cocktails in the Dining Room where several raffle trees will be on display. Then guests will be encouraged to get seated around 6:45 pm for a family-style serving of the Solstice meal. She has also been known to pop up a time or two as a penguin during the Shaker Snow Shoe Festival. You and your child will have an opportunity to handcraft old-fashioned holiday decorations and gifts. \nMorning Activities (4 – 7 year old) include:\nOrnaments\nAdd a little imagination\, to paint and decorate a natural wood ornament. Hung with twine\, these personalized decorations will add a charming rustic addition to your Christmas decor. \nCandle Making\n\nHandcraft your own beeswax sheet candles. We will provide instructions and all supplies for you to hand roll a set of colorful candles to light for your special holiday festivities. \nFragrant Sachets\nFill beautiful\, reusable\, drawstring organza sachet bags\, with dried herbs from our garden\, balsam needles from the forest and kitchen spices to create a handcrafted set of three fragrant aromas to enjoy this holiday season. \nAfternoon Activities (8-12 year old) include:\nCandle Making\n\nHandcraft your own beeswax sheet candles. We will provide instructions and all supplies for you to hand roll a set of colorful candles to light for your special holiday festivities. \nDecorative tray\n\nCreate a unique serving tray to give to that special someone on your gift list using beautiful botanical napkins\, decoupage and acrylic paint.
