Herbs for Winter Health is a perfect was to easy into the winter months. \nHerbs for Winter Health with Rosemary Gladstar\nDo you wonder what to do for flu? What is the best approach for colds and coughs\, sore throats and head congestion? Or Seasonal depression?  Better yet\, what to do to prevent the malady’s that often come with the long months of winter. In this eminently practical hands on workshop\, Herbs for Winter Health with Rosemary Gladstar\, you will learn about her favorite recipes\, remedies and herbs for winter health. Our focus will be on prevention\, and then remedies for wellness and\, finally\, what to stock in a winter pantry to be fully prepared for the health concerns of winter.  In this workshop\, you’ll learn to make herbal tinctures\, syrups\, and fire cider.  We’ll make\, sample and share recipes. Books will be available for purchase. DESCRIPTION:Hand Papermaking with Plants\nSunday August 24th\, 2025\n10:00 am – 1:30 pm\nEnfield Shaker Museum Herb Garden \n447 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \nJoin local artist Emma Percy for a day making paper in the herb garden! People have been using plant fibers to make paper for nearly 2\,000 years\, and in the present day the practice offers endless possibilities as a creative and artistic medium. This class will go through the traditional western-style papermaking process step-by-step: understanding different types of fiber and where they come from\, processing the plants and making pulp\, forming sheets\, adding decorative inclusions from in and around the garden\, and pressing and drying the sheets. Everyone will make several pieces of paper to use for their own art and craft projects\, for writing letters\, or simply to appreciate as art in its own right. You’ll also learn some strategies for making paper at home in a relatively small space without the need for much specialized equipment! \n \n*Please wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet\, and be mindful of the weather for this outdoor workshop. Explore our 10\,000 square foot historic herb beds and witness the beauty and green energy of the plants vibrant spring growth. The sale will be at the front steps of the Great Stone Dwelling\, under a pop-up tent. \nEach herb seedling is in a 4 inch pot and was organically raised in Coast of Maine Potting Soil. Natives\, culinary\, medicinals and more. \nThey are being sold for $3.00. All proceeds will be used to fund our garden expenses and projects. \nThe Herbs were donated by a current Gardener for the sale. \n\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Anise Hysop\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Feverfew\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Calendula\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Primrose\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Sage\n				\n		\n\nVisitors will have the opportunity to meet some of our dedicated gardeners and volunteers\, who care for the our garden exhibit. Enjoy a self guided tours\, hands-on activities\, and insightful discussions about the rich history and uses of the herbs. \nVisit our newly created Children’s Sensory Herb Garden\, where children can explore the plants with their curiosity and senses. Located on the north side of the Blueberry bushes this space offers a safe spot for the young and the young at heart. \nA formal guided Herb tour will be offer by herbalist Happy Griffiths and Susan Quinlan at 12:00 pm. \n \nThe Enfield Shaker Herb Garden is maintained through the generous support of our visitors and members. Participants will learn herb garden basics. We’ll cover plant selection\, planting\, and maintenance. Then we’ll explore seasonal care techniques. This is perfect for beginners or seasoned gardeners looking to deepen their herbal expertise. All sessions will be hands-on\, and participants will grow a tray of herbs ready to plant in their home garden. \nWho is Susan Quinlan?\nSusan is a retired registered nurse who has been creating and caring for gardens and people for fifty years. As a self taught and dedicated organic gardener\, she is a recent graduate of the NH Master Gardeners program and holds a Native Plants for the Pollinators Certificate. Susan manages the 7000 square foot Herb Garden at the Enfield Shaker Museum\, where she teaches hands-on herb gardening and herbal crafting. You will be treated to live music by pianist Tim Kelly\, and a delectable menu of scones\, finger sandwiches\, and petite pastries complemented by a seasonable selection of lavender teas and a sparkling lavender cocktail. \nHappy Griffiths\, Museum Herbalist Emeritus\, will be sharing an array of edible flower treats and recipes. Walk the garden paths and watch as local artists create works of art inspired by the garden. The artists will also offer their work for sale. DESCRIPTION:2023 Village Gardener Hands-on Learning Series\nMay – October\nEnfield Shaker Museum\n  \nThe Village Gardeners Hands-on Learning Series is a thorough introduction to organic herb gardening practice\, including soil preparation\, garden planning\, composting\, mulching\, and propagation. \nThe Village Gardener hands-on learning classes will cover cultivation through harvesting and use of culinary\, medicinal\, fragrance\, due\, and everlasting herbs.  Enfield Shaker Museum Garden Coordinator Susan Quinlan and Enfield Shaker Museum Herbalist Emeritus Happy Griffiths will guide the series. \nOur focus will be on building community connections and enhancing the well-being of ourselves and our environment.  Together\, using organic practices\, we will become stewards of the historic Museum Herb Garden.  In community you will nurture plants\, tend to the gardens\, and harvest the fruits of your labors on the historic site of the Enfield Shaker Community. The skills you learn will be enriched with the herbal and gardening knowledge of the Shakers during their time in Enfield\, as they raised herbs to season their foods\, scent the air\, soothe bodily aches and disease\, and color textiles. \nThe Classes:\nEvery other Thursday evening from 5:30 – 7:00 pm (May 18 – October 12) all Village Gardeners will gather in the garden for an outdoor class that will cover growth\, maintenance and use of the “herb bed of the week”. The garden’s 12 beds include roses and herbs. These evening sessions will be taught by Susan Quinlan\, Enfield Shaker Museum Garden Coordinator with support from Happy Griffiths\, Enfield Shaker Museum Herbalist Emeritus. \nIn addition to class time\, Village Gardeners who agree to dedicate at least two hours per week in the garden working alongside our experienced Village Gardeners will get a 50% discount on the hands-on class series. \nJoin us as we take this Shaker Herbal Garden Path through the 2023 growing season. All gardening experience levels are encouraged to join us–from total beginner to master gardener. \nRegistration:\nWe have 15 spaces available in this year’s class.
