DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nHike Into History\nSaturday October 24th at 9:00am\nMeet at the Smith Pond Trailhead\, slightly further south from the Enfield Shaker Museum \nFree With Museum Admission \nWant to explore the Shaker trails while learning about the history of the buildings and structures along the way? Then join us for our monthly Hike into History!\n\n\n\nTake a hike to Smith Pond with UVLT and ESM! Smith Pond Shaker Forest consists of 995 acres of forest and wetlands in Enfield located between two State Wildlife Management Areas. The three properties combine to provide thousands of acres of significant wildlife habitat. UVLT’s property boasts two waterfalls\, numerous articles from Shaker History including spillways\, dams\, canals\, and stone walls\, and the beautiful Smith Pond. \nIn the 1830s\, the Shakers dammed several ponds\, creating “Shaker Mountain Pond\,” and developed a system of canals to deliver water to their community near Lake Mascoma that are still visible today \n\n\n\nThis hike will be outside and in the woods. Please come prepared with water\, snacks\, appropriate footwear and layers\, and be prepared for sun\, rain\, bugs\, and ticks.\n\n\n\nPARKING INFORMATION: Parking can be found at the Smith Pond Trailhead on NH Route 4A \n\n\nACCESSIBILITY: This 4.5 mile out-and-back style hike will have about 931ft of elevation change and has some steeper sections.
