SUMMARY:Celebrating New Hampshire's Shakers
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating New Hampshire’s Shakers\n“No Foolish Play”\nSaturday\, June 15\, 2024\n2:00 pm\nChosen Vale Performance Center\nEnfield Shaker Museum\, Enfield\, NH\nIn 1774 a band of eight religious refugees arrived in New York from Manchester\, England. Their leader\, Mother Ann Lee\, preached a radical new religion\, derisively called “Shakerism.” Over the next 20 years converts to this new faith stablished 19 Shaker communities in the East and Midwest\, including two vibrant Shaker villages at Canterbury and Enfield\, New Hampshire. Known for their simple yet elegant style of living\, the Shakers also made racial and gender equality\, stewardship of resources\, honesty in business\, celibacy\, and pacifism hallmarks of their communal life. \n“No Foolish Play”: Celebrating New Hampshire’s Shakers commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Shakers’ arrival in America and explores the sect’s legacy with a talk by Shaker scholar and musician Mary Ann Haagen\, with a performance of Shaker music by the Canterbury Singers under the direction of Kathryn Lundahl. Admission is free. No registration required. Held in the Chosen Vale Performance Center (behind the Stone Laundry/Dairy Building at the former La Salette Shrine.) \nWant to know more about Mary Ann Haagen?\n\n\n\nMary Ann Haagen is a long-time independent Shaker scholar whose research focuses on the Enfield\, New Hampshire Shaker Society. She has been active in the work of the Enfield Shaker Museum since 1987 and is the founding director of the Enfield Shaker Singers. In 2012\, Mary Ann compiled and edited The Collected Writings of Henry Cummings. Currently\, she is also a visiting scholar in the Music Department at Dartmouth College.

SUMMARY:Free Concert - The Twangtown Paramours
DESCRIPTION:2024 Outdoor Summer Concert Series\nThe Twangtown Paramours\nWednesday\, August 7\, 2024\nLive music starts at 7 pm. Vending begins at 6 pm.\n  \nJoin us outside the historic Stone Machine Shop for a FREE concert with The Twangtown Paramours! \nNashville-based husband-and-wife duo Mike T. Lewis and MaryBeth Zamer\, known on stage as The Twangtown Paramours\, have made a name for themselves defying boundaries with their award-winning catalogue of Americana\, folk\, and blues anthems. With a slew of accolades for their three full-length albums\, they’ve earned a loyal following\, balancing serious instrumental and vocal chops with witty stage banter and a lighthearted approach to life. They don’t take themselves\, or the world\, too seriously. With their third album\, Double Down on a Bad Thing\, The Twangtown Paramours shift gears to showcase a full band\, electric\, groove-oriented\, upbeat\, soul-infused\, and retro blues sound. “We want people to have fun\, to cheer up\, to dance\, and to start sporting a positive attitude\, dammit\,” says Mike. \nHit songwriter\, session musician\, and producer Mike Lewis was born in NYC\, but his sound is informed by a mix of experiences across the country’s major music centers\, including NYC\, L.A.\, Austin\, and Nashville. He began learning classical and jazz guitar at age eight\, studying under Leonid Bolotine\, William Matthews\, and Barry Galbraith\, before earning degrees at Columbia in New York City and the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. He wrote a #1 platinum pop hit ranked the 2nd biggest-selling female ballad of all time in Korea\, and occasionally plays upright bass for Jimmie Dale Gilmore. \nBorn in Washington D.C.\, lead singer MaryBeth Zamer was raised on a mix of opera and American songbook music\, singing along to Dean Martin and Ella Fitzgerald\, before discovering Little Feat\, Bonnie Raitt\, and the blues in high school. A fixture in the Washington\, D.C. club scene for years\, MaryBeth performed with popular local cover band\, Ignition and sang backup vocals for Eva Cassidy’s band\, Method Actor. “Eva was a huge influence on my singing style\,” MaryBeth says. “She taught me to go beyond having fun and hitting the right notes\, to sing in a way that conveys real emotion.” \nBring your chairs and blankets and enjoy this Outdoor Summer Concert. \nBeer\, hard cider\, wine\, soda\, and snacks will be available to purchase during the concert. \nMascoma Enfield Lions Club will be on site with its food truck. \nLive music will start at 7 pm.
