Discuss how botanical elements can be combined to evoke natural themes and designs.\nLayering and Composition: Explore different ways to balance and layer paper\, encouraging participants to work with repetition\, symmetry\, or contrast to create dynamic collages.\n\n\n\nWorkshop 3: Journal Making with Botanical Prints and Collage – August 14th\, 2025\n\nObjective: Teach participants to create a journal using their botanical prints and collages.\nMaterials: Collage materials from previous workshops\, blank pages\, binding materials (needle\, thread\, cardboard or chipboard)\, botanical images for decoration.\nActivities:\n\nIntroduction to Journal Binding: Demonstrate a simple binding technique like pamphlet stitching to create the structure of the journal.\nDecorating the Journal: Participants will decorate their journal covers and pages using their botanical prints\, collages\, and additional elements such as stamps\, drawings\, or stenciling.\n\nPersonalizing the Journal: Encourage participants to use their journals for future creative projects\, notes\, or sketches\, giving them space to reflect and design with botanical inspiration\n\n\n\n\nWho is Pam Smith? \n\nPam is a New Hampshire artist and printmaker. She is an avid gardener\, and her creative inspiration comes from the natural beauty all around us. Her work ranges from botanical relief prints and monoprints to whimsical collages and often combines traditional printmaking\, painting and mixed media. \nPam’s original linocut prints and monoprints are designed\, hand-carved\, and hand-pressed by hand at Art Haven Studio in Enfield. All sessions will be hands-on\, and participants will grow a tray of herbs ready to plant in their home garden. \nWho is Susan Quinlan?\nSusan is a retired registered nurse who has been creating and caring for gardens and people for fifty years. As a self taught and dedicated organic gardener\, she is a recent graduate of the NH Master Gardeners program and holds a Native Plants for the Pollinators Certificate. DESCRIPTION:Berry Basket Workshop\nwith Doña Nazarenko\nSaturday\, June 14th\, 2025\n9:00 am – 5:00 pm\nEnfield Shaker Museum \n447 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \nJoin us in the Great Stone Dwelling for a day of basket weaving with Doña Nazerenko of Country Spirit Baskets. By the end of the class you will have created a Shaker-style berry basket\, perfect for the start of berry season. Woven with natural reed\, this has an attached Shaker tape or leather strap to carry around or on the shoulders. All materials come in a pre-fabricated kit made by Dona that you will use during the class. Using a plastic bag or insert while berry picking will prevent juice staining and keep the basket in good condition. When not berry picking remove your plastic bag or container and use for your hobby\, craft or garden needs. This is a beginner friendly workshop\, so you will leave with a completed basket. \nWho is Doña Nazerenko? \nResiding in Tunbridge\, Vermont\, Doña Nazarenko has been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1994. While living along the New Jersey coast\, Doña developed an interest in woodcrafts and related art forms that developed into her desire to take basket making classes in 1988. \nHer exploration of a different art medium has since evolved into a flourishing talent. She now enjoys making traditional baskets using reed with wooden accents to more challenging baskets using birch bark from the area surrounding her current residence in rural Vermont. \nThe highlight of the early years at her craft was having a one-on-one critique with John McGuire at Peter’s Gallery in 1992. His confidence in her and his discretion continues to help her with her current work. Today she can be seen demonstrating basketry representing Vermont fiber artists at local and out-of-state events. \n*Please bring your own lunch. Everyone is welcome to gather on this day at Enfield Shaker Museum to knit\, crochet\, and weave. All fiber arts welcome! \nThis event is FREE! Bring your project\, your yarn\, your needles\, and a chair\, blanket\, and lunch or snacks. We’ll provide: \n\ntents–but you may wish to bring your own!\nwater\, iced tea or lemonade\, and cookies!\nhourly door prizes!\nlessons for those who want to learn how to knit or crochet!\nstash renewal through a yarn swap!\n\nWe will be knitting washcloths for a community in the Upper Valley who is in need. We’ll provide the cotton yarn and a dishcloth pattern for you to knit. Please bring size 7 or 8 knitting needles! We will have some to loan\, but encourage you to bring your own. It would be wonderful if you also brought a packaged bar of soap to be included with your washcloth. \n \n \nOther knit and crochet items\, from socks to hats to scarves\, are also welcome. Start your project with us and bring them to the Museum when you’re done! \n \nSocial Crafting of crocheting\, weaving\, felting and all fiber arts are welcome too! \nWorldwide Knit in Public Day is the largest knitter-run event in the world. Explore our 10\,000 square foot historic herb beds and witness the beauty and green energy of the plants vibrant spring growth. The sale will be at the front steps of the Great Stone Dwelling\, under a pop-up tent. \nEach herb seedling is in a 4 inch pot and was organically raised in Coast of Maine Potting Soil. Natives\, culinary\, medicinals and more. \nThey are being sold for $3.00. All proceeds will be used to fund our garden expenses and projects. \nThe Herbs were donated by a current Gardener for the sale. \n\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Calendula\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Primrose\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Sage\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Anise Hysop\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Feverfew\n				\n		\n\nVisitors will have the opportunity to meet some of our dedicated gardeners and volunteers\, who care for the our garden exhibit. Enjoy a self guided tours\, hands-on activities\, and insightful discussions about the rich history and uses of the herbs. \nVisit our newly created Children’s Sensory Herb Garden\, where children can explore the plants with their curiosity and senses. Located on the north side of the Blueberry bushes this space offers a safe spot for the young and the young at heart. \nA formal guided Herb tour will be offer by herbalist Happy Griffiths and Susan Quinlan at 12:00 pm. \n \nThe Enfield Shaker Herb Garden is maintained through the generous support of our visitors and members. Edward Carroll is the Director of the Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale\, and was responsible for the music programming of the California State Summer School of the Arts from 2006-2008. He also chaired the commissioning committee of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) from 2005-2011. \nMr. Carroll has served as Principal Trumpet of the Rotterdam Philharmonic (James Conlon\, Jeffrey Tate\, and Valery Gergiev\, Music Directors)\, the San Diego Symphony (David Atherton)\, and as Associate Principal Trumpet of the Houston Symphony (Lawrence Foster)\, touring most of the world’s major concert halls and festivals\, and recording for Sony\, EMI\, Virgin\, and Erato. Join us on June 20th for our annual Summer Solstice Sunset Hike\, a unique event that combines natural beauty\, history\, and delightful refreshments. \nOur journey begins at 6:30pm with a guided hike to the historic Feast Ground. This scenic hike will take you through the lush Shaker Forest and rolling fields\, offering stunning views of Mascoma Lake. Along the way\, learn about the Shaker community’s rich history and their deep connection to the land. \nUpon reaching the Feast Ground\, we will gather to witness the spectacular summer solstice sunset. Enjoy a selection of fine wines and artisanal cheeses while mingling with fellow hikers and nature enthusiasts. This relaxing reception provides a perfect opportunity to unwind and savor the evening. \nThe highlight of the evening will be a special talk by Shaker scholar Mary Ann Haagen. Mary Ann will share fascinating insights into the Shaker way of life\, and the historical significance of the Feast Ground and its use as an outdoor worship space in the mid 19th century. \nAdvance registration is required. Tickets are limited to ensure an intimate and enjoyable experience for all participants. Careful consideration of comfort in your outdoor gear is important when creating art in the open air.  Feel free to bring a full plein air kit or for ease & simplicity bring a simple sketchbook with pencil & pen\, or anything you like\, whatever works in your favor. There will be locations that involve light hiking\, which will be noted in the monthly location description. DESCRIPTION:Free Trumpet Concert\nTuesday\, June 17\, 2025\n8:00 pm\nPre-concert talk at 7:30 pm\nMary Keane Chapel\nThe Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale (CAMS) will be back at Enfield Shaker Museum for the last two weeks of June 2025.  CAMS director\, Edward Carroll has gathered together a very talented group of international faculty and students for this year’s two-week Trumpet Seminar. \nThe faculty and students participating in the Trumpet Seminar will offer four free trumpet concerts in the historic Mary Keane Chapel on the grounds of Enfield Shaker Museum. \nPlenty of free parking. Freewill offering to benefit the Center for Advanced Musical Studies scholarship fund. Invite your family and friends to join you for these stimulating concerts. \nTuesday\, June 17 – 8:00 pm (Pre-concert talk 7:30 pm)\nProgram presented by internationally acclaimed faculty members – \nTrumpeters Ole Edvard Antonsen\, Gabriele Cassone\, and Clement Saunier\, with pianist Rebecca Wilt\nSaturday\, June 21 – 8:00 pm (Pre-concert talk 7:30 pm)\nTrumpet Calls – Members of the 19th annual Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar\nFriday\, June 27 – 8:00 pm (Pre-concert talk 7:30 pm)\nEveryone Loves Difficult Music – Members of the 19th annual Chosen Vale International\nSaturday\, June 28 – 4:00 pm (Pre-concert talk 3:30 pm)\nFinal concert by participants and faculty from around the globe. \nWant to know more about Edward Carroll?\nA native of Chicago and graduate of Juilliard (BM\, MM)\, Edward Carroll is a trumpeter\, conductor\, and teacher of international stature. He serves as Professor of Trumpet and Coordinator of Brass Studies at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts)\, Professor at the Bard Conservatory of Music\, and as a Senior Lecturer at Dartmouth College. Previous appointments include Associate Professor at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in 2007-2011 (assuming the role of brass area chair in 2009)\, the International Chair of Brass Studies at London’s Royal Academy of Music and Professor of Trumpet at the Rotterdam (NL) Conservatory. Edward Carroll is the Director of the Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale\, and was responsible for the music programming of the California State Summer School of the Arts from 2006-2008. He also chaired the commissioning committee of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) from 2005-2011. \nMr. Carroll has served as Principal Trumpet of the Rotterdam Philharmonic (James Conlon\, Jeffrey Tate\, and Valery Gergiev\, Music Directors)\, the San Diego Symphony (David Atherton)\, and as Associate Principal Trumpet of the Houston Symphony (Lawrence Foster)\, touring most of the world’s major concert halls and festivals\, and recording for Sony\, EMI\, Virgin\, and Erato. A frequent guest with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center\, Edward Carroll directed\, recorded\, and toured with the New York Trumpet Ensemble from 1979 to 1988. He has performed with the London Sinfonietta\, Speculum Musicae\, Music Today\, I Musici di Montreal\, Orpheus\, the Bach Aria Group\, the Handel and Haydn Society (Boston)\, and as soloist with many North American and European orchestras. Sir Harrison Birtwistle\, Larry Polansky\, Anne LeBaron\, Bruce Adolphe\, and Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Moravec are among the many composers that have written new music for him\, and his many solo recordings can be found on the Sony\, Vox\, MHS\, and Newport Classic labels.
