SUMMARY:Make A Turkey Wing Whisk Broom
DESCRIPTION:  \nTurkey Wing Whisk Broom Workshop\nSaturday\, September 5\, 2026\n10:00 am – 4:00 pm\nDuring the 19th century\, the Enfield Shakers produced as many as “2000 dozen” brooms per year. Begun at Watervliet\, New York community\, in 1798\, the Shaker broom industry quickly became one of the most important industries for Shaker communities across the country. Brooms can also be seen as a symbol of an important Shaker ideal. Cleanliness was a spiritual and moral imperative. When Mother Ann Lee told her followers\, “Sweep clean\,” she was referring not only to the floor of the home\, but also the floor of the heart. \n \nJoin our resident broom squire Larry Antonuk for a Turkey Wing Whisk Broom Workshop. Begin by learning to make a simple bundle whisk broom\, including the knots and materials used to make all brooms. After you master the skills necessary to use a “tumble spool”\, you will move on to the more challenging turkey wing whisk broom. \nThese traditional\, functional\, high quality and long lasting brooms are made from natural broom corn. \nThis Turkey Wing Whisk Broom workshop takes place in the historic  Great Stone Dwelling dining room. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Brethren’s West Shop and the historical equipment the Shaker Brother’s used to create their iconic brooms. \nClass size limited to 8. Advance registration required. \nPlease bring a bag lunch\, closed-toe shoes and a water bottle. \nCost:  \nMuseum Members – $65/per person (includes materials) \nNon-Members – $75/per person (includes materials) \n*Please select the quantity of tickets you would like before clicking the “Get Tickets” button. \nAll proceeds from this workshop go to support the educational mission of Enfield Shaker Museum. \nComing from a distance? Why not plan to stay overnight in the historic Great Stone Dwelling? Check out room availability here. \nMore about our Broom Squire Larry Antonuk:\n\nSometime in 2010\, Larry Antonuk found himself on a tour of the Enfield Shaker Museum. While watching a Broom Making demonstration he became fascinated with the process\, and wound up coming back for a private tutorial with Master Broom Maker Susan Brown. \n\n\nOne thing led to another\, and Larry is now a frequent demonstrator at the Museum. He has researched and reproduced a variety of Shaker designs\, and now sells his work in our Gift Shop. Larry is a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen\, and can often be seen demonstrating at the Sunapee Fair.

SUMMARY:2026 Mary Keane Chapel Summer Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:Mary Keane Chapel Summer Concert Series\nSunday\, September 13\, 2026\n4:00 pm Start\nAll concerts will be held in the Mary Keane Chapel\nEnfield Shaker Museum\n447 NH Route 4A\nEnfield\, NH 03748\nshakermuseum.org \nSuggested donation $15.00. All concert donations support the ongoing restoration of the organ. \nAll concerts will be followed by a reception in the Museum Herb Garden (weather permitting) or in the Great Stone Dwelling. \nOrgan Recital\nNH Chapter of American Guild of Organists\nMembers of the New Hampshire chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be featured in the final concert of the 2026 season. Five organists will perform works that display the organ’s capacity and breadth of color. The program will include Hungarian Rhapsodies\, The Bells of St Anne de Beaupre by Alexander Russell\, Pachelbel Toccata in E minor\, Trumpet Tune by Nicholas Bowden\, compositions by Gerald Near\, Thomas Crawford\, Brenda Portman\, J. S. Bach\, and More. \nOrgan Restoration Update \nBob Waters and Richard Nickerson are continuing to address important restoration needs on the Casavant organ in the Museum’s Mary Keane Chapel. This fall and winter they removed and completely rebuilt the wind chest that receives and regulates the air pressure produced by the organ’s electric blower. This included replacing all the original leather work that controls the release of air to the organ pipes. In addition to maintaining the organ’s tuning\, they have been repairing coupling mechanisms that have failed. Unfortunately the Casavant company no longer makes certain replacement parts\, so some aspects of the restoration work requires creative problem solving. We are fortunate to have two craftsmen\, well versed in the intricacies of Casavant organ construction\, caring for this precious instrument. \nThank you for your support of their ongoing restoration work.

SUMMARY:Versatile Tote Basket Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nVersatile Tote Basket\nWith Dona Nazarenko\nPOSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER \n9:00 am – 5:00 pm\n \n  \nMeet us in the Chosen Vale Performance Center at the Enfield Shaker Museum to get ready ready for the outdoor “picking” season! This basket is perfect for any of your berry or apple picking needs\, or for any hobby\, crafting\, and gardening needs as well. It is woven with natural and dyed reed\, and when not being used it hangs nicely from the attached Shaker tape strap. Class will have reed color choices as well as some Shaker tape color choices available. The final basket will be about 10″ x 5 1/2″ x 7″ high. This is a more advanced style so students should have some basket experience \n  \nWho is Doña Nazerenko? \nResiding in Tunbridge\, Vermont\, Doña Nazarenko has been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1994. While living along the New Jersey coast\, Doña developed an interest in woodcrafts and related art forms that developed into her desire to take basket making classes in 1988. \nHer exploration of a different art medium has since evolved into a flourishing talent. She now enjoys making traditional baskets using reed with wooden accents to more challenging baskets using birch bark from the area surrounding her current residence in rural Vermont. \nThe highlight of the early years at her craft was having a one-on-one critique with John McGuire at Peter’s Gallery in 1992. His confidence in her and his discretion continues to help her with her current work. Today she can be seen demonstrating basketry representing Vermont fiber artists at local and out-of-state events. Most days she can be found working in her studio at Country Spirit Baskets \nPlease bring your own lunch. Water and light refreshments will be provided. \nCost: \nMuseum Members – $70 \nNon-Members – $80 \nAll proceeds go to the educational mission of Enfield Shaker Museum. \nComing from a distance? Stay at the historic Great Stone Dwelling. Check our room availability here.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Shaker Herb Garden Tour
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nWeekly Shaker Herb Garden Tour\nwith Herbalist Happy Griffiths\nFridays at 11 am\, meet by the rose bushes in the garden\nJoin renowned herbalist and founder of the Enfield Shaker Museum Herb Garden\, Happy Griffiths\, for a guided tour through one of the Museum’s most beloved living exhibits. \nDiscover the fascinating history of the Shakers’ herb-growing traditions as you explore beds of culinary\, medicinal\, aromatic\, and dye plants. Along the way\, Happy will share stories of how these herbs were cultivated and used by the Enfield Shakers\, as well as their practical uses in today’s gardens and homes. \nWith decades of experience as an herbalist\, educator\, and the visionary behind the Museum’s herb garden\, Happy brings each tour to life with engaging insights and a deep appreciation for the connections between people\, plants\, and history. The Museum’s herb garden features many of the same plants that were grown by the Shakers as part of their thriving herb and medicine enterprise. \nFridays at 11:00 a.m. \nTours are free with Museum admission and are open to visitors of all ages. Whether you’re an avid gardener\, curious about herbal traditions\, or simply looking for a beautiful way to experience the Museum grounds\, this tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the living legacy of the Enfield Shakers. \nWhat to Expect \nTours last approximately one hour and take place rain or shine\, except in the case of thunder or lightning. Much of the tour is outdoors in full sun\, so we recommend dressing for the weather\, wearing comfortable walking shoes\, and bringing water\, sunscreen\, or rain gear as needed. \nThe herb garden features maintained paths\, but visitors should expect some uneven terrain. Benches are available in both sunny and shaded areas throughout the garden for those who would like to sit during the tour. \nVisitors are encouraged to engage all of their senses.
