Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a beginner\, this class is designed for all skill levels. Bowl cozies are perfect for keeping your hands safe from hot bowls\, and they make great gifts or personal items for your kitchen. You will learn basic sewing techniques\, get step-by-step instructions from Mary Ellen and receive a pattern to make another one in the future. All fabric\, thread\, and tools are included in the workshop fee. Bring your creativity and leave with a practical\, adorable addition to your kitchen or a thoughtful handmade gift for a friend. Some experience with a sewing machine is highly recommended. \n \nInstructor Bio: \nMary Ellen Rigby learned to sew as a youngster in a 4-H group in her hometown.  She has been learning\, sewing and collecting fabric ever since. Mary Ellen is a member of a fiber arts crafting group in the Upper Valley. She is also currently a volunteer at Enfield Shaker Museum and President of the museum’s Board of Trustees. \nEmbroidered Lavender Sachet with June Albright\nA lavender embroidered sachet workshop is a relaxing and creative experience where participants learn to make their own fragrant sachets. Using embroidery techniques\, they will decorate small squares of linen with intricate designs\, inspired by lavender flowers. Once the embroidery is complete\, the sachets are filled with dried lavender buds\, creating a soothing and aromatic keepsake. The workshop provides a calm and enjoyable atmosphere\, allowing participants to unwind while learning a new craft and leaving with a beautifully handmade item that carries both personal creativity and the calming scent of lavender. \n  \nInstructor Bio: \nJune Albright learned to embroider as a child\, taught by her grandmother. For the past 30 years\, she has enjoyed teaching embroidery at the Upper Valley Waldorf School to grade school students. June teaches embroidery\, mainly to adults\, at Craft Studies in White River Junction.\nShe has enjoyed furthering her skills at the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design and the Royal School of Needlework in London.\nCreative Mending with Jennifer Duff\nLearn to use the Swiss darning technique on knits! Visible Mending is a great way to preserve your knits while showing off your skills and adding a pop of color. \nLearn basic stitches and choosing materials before practicing Swiss darning over thinning areas or stocking web darning over holes. Skill level: Some basic sewing or knitting experience is helpful but not required. \nIf you have garments in need of repair please bring them and as time allows we can go over and explore solutions or work on them with your new skills. If you do not\, swatches are provided to everyone. \n \nInstructor Bio: \nJennifer Duff (she/her)\, of Wildwood Mending\, is a lifelong artist with a BA from Bard College in studio arts. She draws on that background to imagine creative repairs in her mending. Her love and many years experience as a knitter led easily into repair\, but it was the visible mending movement on social media that was the spark she needed to apply those skills to mending. She believes that in a world of fast fashion\, repair is a radical act\, as well as a way to honor the hard work of the people who produced the fiber\, fabric\, and garments. It is also an act of deep care and a way to connect with your own personal style and design choices while living a little lighter on the planet. See work @wildwood.mending We will be utilizing a darning disc\, turned by a Connecticut artisan\, during the class and you will have the option to purchase if desired for an additional $25. Payable to the instructor with cash\, check or Venmo\n\nIntroduction to Knitting Two Colors with Donna Kay\nConquer your fear of knitting with 2 colors! In this workshop you will learn how easy it is to learn the technique you need to knit the beautiful designs you have been afraid to try! Learn an easy method for “tangle free” stranded (2 color) knitting. We will be working on a hat in class. \n \nInstructor Bio: \nDonna Kay is a knitting instructor and designer as well as an accomplished hand spinner. Known for her patient teaching manner\, she delights in sharing her knowledge and passion for folk traditions with her students. Donna has worked with Interweave Knits\, Harrisville Designs\, John C Campbell Folk School\, PLY\, Spin Off and her company\, Tree of Life Designs. The patterns are created using slip stitches – no stranding to worry about! The stitch patterns can be knit flat or in the round using stockinette stitch\, garter or a combination of both. You will knit a small stitch sampler to learn how to work the patterns and read the charts and leave with a pattern for finger-less mitts. No previous experience with knitting with colors is necessary! \n \nInstructor Bio: \nDonna Kay is a knitting instructor and designer as well as an accomplished hand spinner. Known for her patient teaching manner\, she delights in sharing her knowledge and passion for folk traditions with her students. You may find her on Ravelry as treeoflife and on Instagram as treeoflifeknitter. \nWoolly Flower Wet Needle Felting with Mallory Zondag\nLearn the ancient and awesome art of wet felting while creating your own unique woolly flowers during this four hour workshop. Using wool roving\, hot water\, olive oil soap and your own two hands\, you can transform wool into sculpt-able felt fabric. You will learn how to wet felt\, how to create organic forms and how to make multi layered felt to build up multiple sets of petals to create your own lovely piece floral fiber art! \n \nInstructor Bio: \nMallory Zondag is a mixed-media fiber artist and artist educator. Her experience with textiles while in art school led her to create both independent and community sculpture through a variety of fiber art mediums. She explores deeply personal and connective universal stories through the meditative and hands-on practices of wet felting\, weaving\, sculpting\, and stitching\, seeking to bring the ephemeral into physical being.  The growth and decay of the natural world\, the duality of discomfort and attraction we feel towards it\, and humanity’s place within this dichotomy informs her dimensional textures and sculptural pieces. \nExplore Tapestry Weaving with Becky Powell\nWhat is it\, how does it differ from other weaving\, and how is it done?\nA talk and demonstration\, followed by the opportunity to make a small tapestry for yourself. Weaving segment limited to the first six who register for this mini-workshop.\n\n\n\nInstructor Bio:\n\nBecky Powell has been a weaver for over 50 years\, beginning as a young teenager. She received a BA in art\, with a concentration in fibers\, from the University of Northern Colorado. After many years of weaving mostly functional items such as clothing and table linens\, she wanted to produce work that stood alone as art\, which led her to focus on tapestry weaving. She has had tapestry instruction from James Koehler\, Tommye Scanlin\, Patricia Williams\, and Maximo Laura.\n\nBecky’s primary inspiration is the endless variety of forms and colors in nature. She prefers to abstract from nature\, rather than trying to achieve photo-like realism. Her intention is to make work that speaks to the viewer through color\, pattern\, memory and emotion.\n\nKnit a Shaker Dishcloth with Carolyn Smith\n“A History of Hand Knitting” by Richard Rutt\, describes a dishcloth knit by the 19th century Shakers “The washcloths were circular\, made of 16 segments of garter stitch\, arranged in alternating colours. The rows ran radially\, decreasing from the centre in alternate shortened rows.” These dishcloths were knit on Size 0 knitting needles using very fine cotton thread\, several of these dishcloths can be found in museum collections today. In this class you will learn to knit a modern version of this historic textile. We will be working with Size 2 (or larger) needles and sport weight cotton yarn. All materials and patterns will be provided. This project is perfect for intermediate beginner knitters.\n \nInstructor Bio: \nCarolyn Smith\, a self-taught knitter\, has decades of experience knitting\, teaching knitting\, and loving yarn of all kinds. Whether you’re working on a unfinished project from the weekend or personal ones\, you’ll find a welcoming space to chat\, share tips\, and enjoy the creative energy of others. \nYoga for Crafters\nJoin Sharon for an all-levels yoga class that will focus on simple exercises—many of which can be done from a chair—which focuses on countering the effects of crafting on the hands\, arms\, shoulders and hips. We’ll explore how movement might help us focus\, create\, and bravely send our ideas into the world!  \nNo previous yoga experience is needed. Much of our practice will be done seated in chairs or stools. Modifications will be taught for those who wish to work from the floor or yoga mat.  \n \nInstructor Bio: \nSharon Comeau has been practicing yoga since 1999 and teaching since 2005. She started as an apprentice under Leslie Carleton’s fine tutelage\, and received certification from Yoga Alliance in 2010\, after studying with Deb Neubauer and Todd Norian. Sharon came to yoga from her interest in movement\, as an athlete and dancer for most of her life. She started with Bikram Yoga\, moved to the Upper Valley and in her yoga practice into vinyasa yoga\, and her teacher training was in Hatha Yoga\, focused on the Anusara School of Yoga. Known for her attention to detail\, kind teaching\, and heart-centered themes\, Sharon is pleased to welcome yogis of all traditions and levels into her classes. \nPractice Mending: A World of Clothes Made & Scraps Saved with Brece Honeycutt\nBrece Honeycutt’s grandmother stacked and stored her quilts in the attic.  One of her favorite pastimes was sneaking to the attic\, unfolding the quilts and looking at their patterns and fabrics. She believes this is how she learned color theory.  A discarded box of one inch quilt squares\, a lesson using the drop spindle\, a goldenrod field turned into dye; these happenstances led Honeycutt to construct textiles\, research historic texts and produce textures in her sculptures and installations.  She will discuss these interwoven occurrences in her evening talk and slideshow.   \n \nPresenter Bio: \nBrece Honeycutt\, a multimedia artist\, uses research as a material for her history and nature based works. Honeycutt continues her research documenting the Shaker communal society through residencies\, fellowships and writing a manuscript. In 2024\, she presented her paper Prismatic Utopia at the Deerfield Forum\, A Rich and Varied Palette: Coloring New England’s Past and at the Enfield Shaker Forum\, where she received the annual award “for presenter demonstrating the highest standard in new outstanding scholarship.” Her installations have been placed in university campuses\, historic houses\, inner-city parks and in office buildings\, libraries\, urban markets and galleries.  She enthusiastically collaborates with artists\, students\, gardeners\, poets\, and dancers and thanks all of the historians\, archivists\, librarians and curators for their knowledge and assistance.  Honeycutt holds a B.A. in Art History from Skidmore College and an M.F.A. in sculpture from Columbia University. \nPracticing Real-Self Care for Wellness: A Peaceful Fiber Arts Exploration with Susan Quinlan\nJoin us for an evening of relaxation\, creativity\, and self-care at the Enfield Shaker Museum Fiber Festival. \nGuided by Susan Quinlan\, this workshop will explore the true meaning of self-care through thoughtful discussion and a calming mindfulness meditation session. \nParticipant will engage in hands-on activities\, including blending your own herbal teas\, creating soothing herbal sachets\, and practicing gentle hand relaxation techniques. Discover how the meditative rhythm of fiber arts can bring balance\, reduce stress\, and foster well-being. Come connect\, create\, and have fun. You will leave feeling refreshed and inspired. \n \nInstructor Bio: \nSusan Quinlan is the Garden Coordinator for Enfield Shaker Museum and manages the 7\,000 square foot herb garden. Susan is a retired registered nurse who has been creating and caring for gardens and people for fifty years. She teaches hands-on herb gardening and herbal crafting. DESCRIPTION:Corbin’s Animal Garden with Mary Kroenenwetter\nWednesday\, April 9th\, 2025\n6:00 – 7:00 pm\nFree Admission\nEnfield Community Center \n308 US Route 4\n \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \nThe Enfield Public Library and Enfield Shaker Museum come together again to bring you a talk from Mary Kroenenwetter! This New Hampshire Humanities talk features a hunting club in central New Hampshire and the long history of its inhabitants. \nIn the late 1800s\, the banking\, railroad\, and real estate mogul Austin Corbin returned to his hometown in Newport\, New Hampshire. He built a grand estate and bought out his neighbors’ farms to create an 22\,000 acre wildlife game preserve stocked with boar\, bison\, bighorn sheep\, antelope\, elk\, Chinese pheasant\, and other imported animals. The grounds eventually became a prestigious private hunting park and hosted illustrious guests including Theodore Roosevelt\, the Prince of Wales\, Cornelius Vanderbilt\, Joe Dimaggio\, Rudyard Kipling\, and Augustus Saint Gaudens. This illustrated slideshow features archival images and a discussion of the complicated history and legacy of New Hampshire’s own American Gilded Age robber baron. The talk will also highlight the important legacy of the role the Corbin family and park naturalist Ernest Baynes played in the saving of the American bison from extinction. \nWho is Mary Kroenenwetter? \nMary Kronenwetter holds a doctorate in educational research\, policy\, and administration and has held academic administration and teaching positions at colleges in the United States\, China\, and Japan. Upon returning to New England\, she has worked at historical sites including Historic Deerfield\, Enfield Shaker Museum\, and The John Hay Estate at The Fells. Mary currently teaches for OSHER at Dartmouth and Adventures in Learning at Colby-Sawyer and has recently published the New Hampshire-based historical fiction\, Pauper Auction. \nThis program is made possible by New Hampshire Humanities. DESCRIPTION:Breakfast of Champions Revival\nBenefit Concert\nMay 1st\, 2025\n6:00 – 9:00 pm\nChosen Vale Performance Center \n410 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \nJoin us for a benefit concert for Enfield Shaker Museum by Breakfast of Champions Revival! Jay Boucher\, Gary ‘Hub’ Hubbard and friends will be playing what they call Bluegrass Renegade. The original band-mates Jay and ‘Hub’ have been playing together for 48 years. They are offering this concert in honor of their first meeting. Jay wrote the story of their journey down and will share many anecdotes during their performance on the 1st of May. \nThe Story of Breakfast of Champions: \nMay 1\, 1977\, is where this journey started. Mutual friends were hosting a jam session ‘May Day’ party at their house in Enfield Center. So\, my best friend Robby and I headed there with our banjo and guitar to join in. Robby and I had lived together in several places\, and at one point we both made a commitment to each other that I would learn the guitar and he would learn the banjo. So\, we both took some lessons and just started playing\, and playing\, and playing until our fingers bled. We couldn’t get enough of it\, and we were anxious to show our friends some of the tunes we had learned. \nThere were several musicians playing music that day\, but for some reason\, we just seemed to click with two guys name Gary ‘Hub’ Hubbard and Matt Rogers\, who were also good friends who had been playing music together. We had a blast playing at that party with them\, and we left the party with the intention of getting the four of us together to work out some tunes- which we did. \n \nThen there was this Choctaw Festival on the common in Lyme\, NH and we were invited to play a few tunes\, which we gladly did. A guy who was in the crowd for this figured out a way to get in touch with Hub and asked if we would play for a couple hours for a party he was throwing for a bunch of Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital folks at his house on the river in Lyme. \nThis was the launch of what became the Breakfast of Champions\, and for the next five years we tore it up all over the Upper Valley (and beyond)\, bringing in huge crowds and having a ball in the process. We’d also go to bluegrass festivals and compete in the parking lot picking contests and always did very well with those. \n \nWe always practiced at my place on Thursday nights\, as we figured we could always stumble through Friday and then we were onto the weekend. These Thursday night picking sessions became iconic\, and despite a few breaks over the decades while we were all raising kids\, starting businesses\, etc.\, these Thursday night picking sessions are still going stronger than ever! When I reflect on the cast of characters that have been a part of these picking sessions over the last 48 years\, it truly warms my heart\, and really proves that there is power in music that is shared by so many people. The friends we have made and maintained over this span of 48 years is incredible to say the least. \n \n \n \nSo\, on May 1\, 2025\, 48 years to the day when Hub and I first met and played music together\, we want to share some stories\, lots of laughs and of course the music we have been playing all this time. Although the numbers of pickers that have joined in on our Thursday night picking sessions are substantial\, on this night we’ll be introducing you to the core guys\, since we can only put so many people on the stage at one time. These guys all come with their own story\, and I look forward to sharing these stories with everyone. These guys also come with their own unique talents as well\, which will be on display that evening. Most importantly\, these guys are simply the best! We have more fun sitting around the table at my house on Thursday nights\, playing music for six hours or so\, giving each other a hard time and laughing our tails off. We plan on doing a lot of that on May 1st\, so bring your sense of humor with you. \nI’m a huge ‘fate’ guy\, as I have always believed that things happen for a reason. One night shortly after New Years day\, I had this vivid dream that started on May 1st\, 1977\, at the picking session where Hub and I first played music together. The dream carried on through the years\, reliving all the highlights of our musical journey and friendship\, and it ended on May 1\, 2025- at the Chosen Vale Performance Center (of all places)\, with me and my buddies putting on a show to raise money for the Enfield Shake Museum and their new performance center. This is a great venue\, and hopefully this event will expose this place to a lot of musicians throughout the upper valley as a perfect spot for performances of all kinds. The place seats around 300 people\, which fills a big void for venues of this size in the area. \nHaving been involved in the development of the Shaker Village properties since the mid-80’s when the developers purchased the property from the Catholic church\, I find it easy to take this place for granted. However\, this village is a tremendous asset to this area\, and the folks behind the Enfield Shaker Museum have poured their hearts and souls into making this place what it is today. Their recent purchase of the LaSalette property significantly enhances their offerings\, and this new performance center is destined for great things. \nPlease come and join us for this event and help us raise money for a great cause and have a fun time in the process. We are donating our time that night to the Museum and hope that you’ll be in a generous mood that night. Thank you for understanding.\nEnfield Shaker Museum \n447 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \nJoin Alice Schori for a guided wildflower identification walk through the Historic Enfield Shaker Land\, where you’ll explore the habitats of native plants in the region and the ecosystems that support them. Exploring a variety of plant communities\, become familiar with some of the common ferns and spring flowers of the Upper Valley. Some discussion of phenology (the study of how living things time natural events) and recognition of invasive\, non-native species will be included. \nThe walk will be mostly on easy terrain\, but will include some moderate hills and maybe a bit of bushwhacking. But never fear—Alice always proceeds at a botanist’s pace (=slow!). Dress for walking and tick protection\, picture taking is welcome and encouraged! \nAfter the walk\, return to the Great Stone Dwelling to enjoy a simple Spring Soup and Salad lunch. \nFollowing lunch\, engage in a hands-on Herbal Wellness Workshop focused on Natural Spring Cleansing Practices. You will learn the traditional art of hot process soap making. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn time-tested techniques in crafting natural\, handmade soap\, just like the Shakers did. Participants will explore the history and benefits of hot process soap making\, learn about various oils and additives\, and create their own batch of soap to take home. Perfect for beginners and seasoned soap makers alike\, this class provides practical skills and a deeper appreciation for craftsmanship. All materials will be provided. \nPlease bring a bag lunch and an apron. \nSoup and beverage will be provided. \nMore about Betsy Gibbs:\nAfter a childhood of tie-dying\, weaving and painting\, Betsy Gibbs began her career in Arts/Nature crafts as the Arts and Crafts counselor at Camp Little Notch in the Adirondacks. She later studied watercolor painting with Ludmila Gayvoronsky at the Newport Library Art Center and Nature Journaling from Becky Darling of Concord’s Kimball Art Center. She took a class on soap-making at Enfield Shaker Museum and then taught herself hot process soap making. DESCRIPTION:Berry Basket Workshop\nwith Doña Nazarenko\nSaturday\, June 14th\, 2025\n9:00 am – 5:00 pm\nEnfield Shaker Museum \n447 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \nJoin us in the Great Stone Dwelling for a day of basket weaving with Doña Nazerenko of Country Spirit Baskets. By the end of the class you will have created a Shaker-style berry basket\, perfect for the start of berry season. Woven with natural reed\, this has an attached Shaker tape or leather strap to carry around or on the shoulders. All materials come in a pre-fabricated kit made by Dona that you will use during the class. Using a plastic bag or insert while berry picking will prevent juice staining and keep the basket in good condition. When not berry picking remove your plastic bag or container and use for your hobby\, craft or garden needs. This is a beginner friendly workshop\, so you will leave with a completed basket. \nWho is Doña Nazerenko? \nResiding in Tunbridge\, Vermont\, Doña Nazarenko has been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1994. While living along the New Jersey coast\, Doña developed an interest in woodcrafts and related art forms that developed into her desire to take basket making classes in 1988. \nHer exploration of a different art medium has since evolved into a flourishing talent. She now enjoys making traditional baskets using reed with wooden accents to more challenging baskets using birch bark from the area surrounding her current residence in rural Vermont. \nThe highlight of the early years at her craft was having a one-on-one critique with John McGuire at Peter’s Gallery in 1992. His confidence in her and his discretion continues to help her with her current work. Today she can be seen demonstrating basketry representing Vermont fiber artists at local and out-of-state events. \n*Please bring your own lunch. Bring your project\, your yarn\, your needles\, and a chair\, blanket\, and lunch or snacks. We’ll provide: \n\ntents–but you may wish to bring your own!\nwater\, iced tea or lemonade\, and cookies!\nhourly door prizes!\nlessons for those who want to learn how to knit or crochet!\nstash renewal through a yarn swap!\n\nWe will be knitting washcloths for a community in the Upper Valley who is in need. We’ll provide the cotton yarn and a dishcloth pattern for you to knit. Please bring size 7 or 8 knitting needles! We will have some to loan\, but encourage you to bring your own. DESCRIPTION:Enfield Shaker Herb Garden Plant Sale\nSaturday\, June 14th\, 2025\n11:00 – 4:00 pm\nThe Shaker Herb Garden is hosting a plant sale as part of the opening of the Gardens for the season. Explore our 10\,000 square foot historic herb beds and witness the beauty and green energy of the plants vibrant spring growth. The sale will be at the front steps of the Great Stone Dwelling\, under a pop-up tent. \nEach herb seedling is in a 4 inch pot and was organically raised in Coast of Maine Potting Soil. Natives\, culinary\, medicinals and more. \nThey are being sold for $3.00. All proceeds will be used to fund our garden expenses and projects. \nThe Herbs were donated by a current Gardener for the sale. \n\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Feverfew\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Primrose\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Anise Hysop\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Sage\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Calendula\n				\n		\n\nVisitors will have the opportunity to meet some of our dedicated gardeners and volunteers\, who care for the our garden exhibit. Enjoy a self guided tours\, hands-on activities\, and insightful discussions about the rich history and uses of the herbs. \nVisit our newly created Children’s Sensory Herb Garden\, where children can explore the plants with their curiosity and senses. Located on the north side of the Blueberry bushes this space offers a safe spot for the young and the young at heart. \nA formal guided Herb tour will be offer by herbalist Happy Griffiths and Susan Quinlan at 12:00 pm. \n \nThe Enfield Shaker Herb Garden is maintained through the generous support of our visitors and members. Previous appointments include Associate Professor at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in 2007-2011 (assuming the role of brass area chair in 2009)\, the International Chair of Brass Studies at London’s Royal Academy of Music and Professor of Trumpet at the Rotterdam (NL) Conservatory. Edward Carroll is the Director of the Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale\, and was responsible for the music programming of the California State Summer School of the Arts from 2006-2008. He also chaired the commissioning committee of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) from 2005-2011. \nMr. Carroll has served as Principal Trumpet of the Rotterdam Philharmonic (James Conlon\, Jeffrey Tate\, and Valery Gergiev\, Music Directors)\, the San Diego Symphony (David Atherton)\, and as Associate Principal Trumpet of the Houston Symphony (Lawrence Foster)\, touring most of the world’s major concert halls and festivals\, and recording for Sony\, EMI\, Virgin\, and Erato. A frequent guest with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center\, Edward Carroll directed\, recorded\, and toured with the New York Trumpet Ensemble from 1979 to 1988. He has performed with the London Sinfonietta\, Speculum Musicae\, Music Today\, I Musici di Montreal\, Orpheus\, the Bach Aria Group\, the Handel and Haydn Society (Boston)\, and as soloist with many North American and European orchestras. Join us on June 20th for our annual Summer Solstice Sunset Hike\, a unique event that combines natural beauty\, history\, and delightful refreshments. \nOur journey begins at 6:30pm with a guided hike to the historic Feast Ground. This scenic hike will take you through the lush Shaker Forest and rolling fields\, offering stunning views of Mascoma Lake. Along the way\, learn about the Shaker community’s rich history and their deep connection to the land. \nUpon reaching the Feast Ground\, we will gather to witness the spectacular summer solstice sunset. Enjoy a selection of fine wines and artisanal cheeses while mingling with fellow hikers and nature enthusiasts. This relaxing reception provides a perfect opportunity to unwind and savor the evening. \nThe highlight of the evening will be a special talk by Shaker scholar Mary Ann Haagen. Mary Ann will share fascinating insights into the Shaker way of life\, and the historical significance of the Feast Ground and its use as an outdoor worship space in the mid 19th century. \nAdvance registration is required. Tickets are limited to ensure an intimate and enjoyable experience for all participants. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring water. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to experience the magic of the summer solstice at Enfield Shaker Museum. We look forward to sharing this special evening with you! \nThis moderately strenuous hike should take about 35 minutes each way and you’ll need to feel comfortable walking on uneven terrain in low light conditions. Check out room availability here. \nWant to know more about Mary Ann Haagen?\nMary Ann Haagen has studied and performed the music and dance traditions of the Shakers since 1980.  Her work is particularly inspired by the songs she learned from Shaker Sister Mildred Barker (1897-1990) of Sabbathday Lake\, Maine\, and by the scholarship of Daniel Patterson\, UNC.  She holds degrees in music from Cornell University\, Columbia University and the Dalcroze School of Music\, NYC. She directed the performing group\, The Enfield Shaker Singers from 1989 to 2005. She regularly lectures on and teaches Shaker music. Careful consideration of comfort in your outdoor gear is important when creating art in the open air.  Feel free to bring a full plein air kit or for ease & simplicity bring a simple sketchbook with pencil & pen\, or anything you like\, whatever works in your favor. There will be locations that involve light hiking\, which will be noted in the monthly location description.
