She is an avid gardener\, and her creative inspiration comes from the natural beauty all around us. Her work ranges from botanical relief prints and monoprints to whimsical collages and often combines traditional printmaking\, painting and mixed media. \nPam’s original linocut prints and monoprints are designed\, hand-carved\, and hand-pressed by hand at Art Haven Studio in Enfield. Participants will explore the history and benefits of hot process soap making\, learn about various oils and additives\, and create their own batch of soap to take home. Perfect for beginners and seasoned soap makers alike\, this class provides practical skills and a deeper appreciation for craftsmanship. Jay Boucher\, Gary ‘Hub’ Hubbard and friends will be playing what they call Bluegrass Renegade. The original band-mates Jay and ‘Hub’ have been playing together for 48 years. They are offering this concert in honor of their first meeting. Jay wrote the story of their journey down and will share many anecdotes during their performance on the 1st of May. \nThe Story of Breakfast of Champions: \nMay 1\, 1977\, is where this journey started. Mutual friends were hosting a jam session ‘May Day’ party at their house in Enfield Center. So\, my best friend Robby and I headed there with our banjo and guitar to join in. Robby and I had lived together in several places\, and at one point we both made a commitment to each other that I would learn the guitar and he would learn the banjo. So\, we both took some lessons and just started playing\, and playing\, and playing until our fingers bled. We couldn’t get enough of it\, and we were anxious to show our friends some of the tunes we had learned. \nThere were several musicians playing music that day\, but for some reason\, we just seemed to click with two guys name Gary ‘Hub’ Hubbard and Matt Rogers\, who were also good friends who had been playing music together. We had a blast playing at that party with them\, and we left the party with the intention of getting the four of us together to work out some tunes- which we did. \n \nThen there was this Choctaw Festival on the common in Lyme\, NH and we were invited to play a few tunes\, which we gladly did. A guy who was in the crowd for this figured out a way to get in touch with Hub and asked if we would play for a couple hours for a party he was throwing for a bunch of Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital folks at his house on the river in Lyme. \nThis was the launch of what became the Breakfast of Champions\, and for the next five years we tore it up all over the Upper Valley (and beyond)\, bringing in huge crowds and having a ball in the process. We’d also go to bluegrass festivals and compete in the parking lot picking contests and always did very well with those. \n \nWe always practiced at my place on Thursday nights\, as we figured we could always stumble through Friday and then we were onto the weekend. These Thursday night picking sessions became iconic\, and despite a few breaks over the decades while we were all raising kids\, starting businesses\, etc.\, these Thursday night picking sessions are still going stronger than ever! When I reflect on the cast of characters that have been a part of these picking sessions over the last 48 years\, it truly warms my heart\, and really proves that there is power in music that is shared by so many people. The friends we have made and maintained over this span of 48 years is incredible to say the least. \n \n \n \nSo\, on May 1\, 2025\, 48 years to the day when Hub and I first met and played music together\, we want to share some stories\, lots of laughs and of course the music we have been playing all this time. Although the numbers of pickers that have joined in on our Thursday night picking sessions are substantial\, on this night we’ll be introducing you to the core guys\, since we can only put so many people on the stage at one time. These guys all come with their own story\, and I look forward to sharing these stories with everyone. These guys also come with their own unique talents as well\, which will be on display that evening. Most importantly\, these guys are simply the best! We have more fun sitting around the table at my house on Thursday nights\, playing music for six hours or so\, giving each other a hard time and laughing our tails off. We plan on doing a lot of that on May 1st\, so bring your sense of humor with you. \nI’m a huge ‘fate’ guy\, as I have always believed that things happen for a reason. One night shortly after New Years day\, I had this vivid dream that started on May 1st\, 1977\, at the picking session where Hub and I first played music together. The dream carried on through the years\, reliving all the highlights of our musical journey and friendship\, and it ended on May 1\, 2025- at the Chosen Vale Performance Center (of all places)\, with me and my buddies putting on a show to raise money for the Enfield Shake Museum and their new performance center. This is a great venue\, and hopefully this event will expose this place to a lot of musicians throughout the upper valley as a perfect spot for performances of all kinds. The place seats around 300 people\, which fills a big void for venues of this size in the area. \nHaving been involved in the development of the Shaker Village properties since the mid-80’s when the developers purchased the property from the Catholic church\, I find it easy to take this place for granted. However\, this village is a tremendous asset to this area\, and the folks behind the Enfield Shaker Museum have poured their hearts and souls into making this place what it is today. Their recent purchase of the LaSalette property significantly enhances their offerings\, and this new performance center is destined for great things. \nPlease come and join us for this event and help us raise money for a great cause and have a fun time in the process. We are donating our time that night to the Museum and hope that you’ll be in a generous mood that night. This New Hampshire Humanities talk features a hunting club in central New Hampshire and the long history of its inhabitants. \nIn the late 1800s\, the banking\, railroad\, and real estate mogul Austin Corbin returned to his hometown in Newport\, New Hampshire. He built a grand estate and bought out his neighbors’ farms to create an 22\,000 acre wildlife game preserve stocked with boar\, bison\, bighorn sheep\, antelope\, elk\, Chinese pheasant\, and other imported animals. The grounds eventually became a prestigious private hunting park and hosted illustrious guests including Theodore Roosevelt\, the Prince of Wales\, Cornelius Vanderbilt\, Joe Dimaggio\, Rudyard Kipling\, and Augustus Saint Gaudens. This illustrated slideshow features archival images and a discussion of the complicated history and legacy of New Hampshire’s own American Gilded Age robber baron. The talk will also highlight the important legacy of the role the Corbin family and park naturalist Ernest Baynes played in the saving of the American bison from extinction. \nWho is Mary Kroenenwetter? \nMary Kronenwetter holds a doctorate in educational research\, policy\, and administration and has held academic administration and teaching positions at colleges in the United States\, China\, and Japan. Upon returning to New England\, she has worked at historical sites including Historic Deerfield\, Enfield Shaker Museum\, and The John Hay Estate at The Fells. Mary currently teaches for OSHER at Dartmouth and Adventures in Learning at Colby-Sawyer and has recently published the New Hampshire-based historical fiction\, Pauper Auction. \nThis program is made possible by New Hampshire Humanities. She is also currently a volunteer at Enfield Shaker Museum and President of the museum’s Board of Trustees. \nEmbroidered Lavender Sachet with June Albright\nA lavender embroidered sachet workshop is a relaxing and creative experience where participants learn to make their own fragrant sachets. Using embroidery techniques\, they will decorate small squares of linen with intricate designs\, inspired by lavender flowers. Once the embroidery is complete\, the sachets are filled with dried lavender buds\, creating a soothing and aromatic keepsake. The workshop provides a calm and enjoyable atmosphere\, allowing participants to unwind while learning a new craft and leaving with a beautifully handmade item that carries both personal creativity and the calming scent of lavender. \n  \nInstructor Bio: \nJune Albright learned to embroider as a child\, taught by her grandmother. For the past 30 years\, she has enjoyed teaching embroidery at the Upper Valley Waldorf School to grade school students. June teaches embroidery\, mainly to adults\, at Craft Studies in White River Junction.\nShe has enjoyed furthering her skills at the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design and the Royal School of Needlework in London.\nCreative Mending with Jennifer Duff\nLearn to use the Swiss darning technique on knits! You will learn how to wet felt\, how to create organic forms and how to make multi layered felt to build up multiple sets of petals to create your own lovely piece floral fiber art! \n \nInstructor Bio: \nMallory Zondag is a mixed-media fiber artist and artist educator. Her experience with textiles while in art school led her to create both independent and community sculpture through a variety of fiber art mediums. She received a BA in art\, with a concentration in fibers\, from the University of Northern Colorado. She has had tapestry instruction from James Koehler\, Tommye Scanlin\, Patricia Williams\, and Maximo Laura.\n\nBecky’s primary inspiration is the endless variety of forms and colors in nature. She prefers to abstract from nature\, rather than trying to achieve photo-like realism. Her intention is to make work that speaks to the viewer through color\, pattern\, memory and emotion.\n\nKnit a Shaker Dishcloth with Carolyn Smith\n“A History of Hand Knitting” by Richard Rutt\, describes a dishcloth knit by the 19th century Shakers “The washcloths were circular\, made of 16 segments of garter stitch\, arranged in alternating colours. The rows ran radially\, decreasing from the centre in alternate shortened rows.” These dishcloths were knit on Size 0 knitting needles using very fine cotton thread\, several of these dishcloths can be found in museum collections today. In this class you will learn to knit a modern version of this historic textile. We will be working with Size 2 (or larger) needles and sport weight cotton yarn. All materials and patterns will be provided. Known for her attention to detail\, kind teaching\, and heart-centered themes\, Sharon is pleased to welcome yogis of all traditions and levels into her classes. \nPractice Mending: A World of Clothes Made & Scraps Saved with Brece Honeycutt\nBrece Honeycutt’s grandmother stacked and stored her quilts in the attic.  One of her favorite pastimes was sneaking to the attic\, unfolding the quilts and looking at their patterns and fabrics. She believes this is how she learned color theory.  A discarded box of one inch quilt squares\, a lesson using the drop spindle\, a goldenrod field turned into dye; these happenstances led Honeycutt to construct textiles\, research historic texts and produce textures in her sculptures and installations.  She will discuss these interwoven occurrences in her evening talk and slideshow.   \n \nPresenter Bio: \nBrece Honeycutt\, a multimedia artist\, uses research as a material for her history and nature based works. Honeycutt continues her research documenting the Shaker communal society through residencies\, fellowships and writing a manuscript. DESCRIPTION:Spinning With Color Workshop\nSunday\, March 23rd\, 2024\n2:00 – 4:00 pm\nTHIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED\nEnfield Shaker Museum \n447 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \nJoin instructor Patty Williams to create vibrant colors and patterns in your own mini skeins of yarn in a 2-hour workshop. Students will create several mini skeins as they develop skills to create color changing yarns as they knit or crochet\, change the colors of fiber without blending\, keep braids and batts from being muddled\, and change commercial yarn colors all by the spinning process. This fast-paced class is perfect for spinners who hate weaving in ends on multi colored projects (or do not dye)\, struggle with braids\, or are gifted that skein they just don’t know how to use. \nAll spinning materials will be provided in class. Students should bring a working wheel or drop spindles to class. \nStudents should know how to spin and ply. \nWho is Patty Williams? \nPatty Williams is the owner of Aker Fiber Farm located in Enfield Center\, NH. She began working with fiber arts as a young girl with her aunt and mom in Walpole\, NH. She learned how to crochet\, wash fleeces\, draft\, or treadle\, and card wool along with tying her shoes. She began Aker Fiber Farm part time after leaving the Army with her husband in Virginia. They then purchased the flock that had been supplying their fleeces and moved everyone to New Hampshire where Patty added Shepherd to her resume. Aker Fiber Farm has evolved into a Farm to Yarn Company providing flax to linen and fleece to yarn to customers all over the US and Canada. \nPatty began teaching fiber arts without even realizing that was what she was doing. Always wanting to share her passion\, she taught friends how to crochet and knit while in grade school and continued as she gathered more skills and moved around the country. Today\, she travels up and down the east coast teaching workshops and giving lectures on Shepherding skills\, flax\, linen\, spinning\, fiber prep\, dyeing\, and knitting. DESCRIPTION:Tapestry Needle Felting Workshop\n10 am – 4 pm\nSaturday\, March 15\, 2025\nEnfield Shaker Museum \n447 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \n  \nJoin Vermont fiber artist Neysa Russo for an incredible workshop and unlock the mysteries of tapestry needle felting. \nA simple technique that uses barbed needles to decorate a wool surface with design\, work on a design that inspires you and use colors of our own choosing. Select from Neysa’s many tapestry needle felting designs or create your own from scratch. Along the way\, you build your needling skills\, gain design experience and experiment with color. Simple design shapes combine to create beautifully unique and personal folk-art tapestries. While we needle\, we will talk about inspiration\, composition\, color choices\, needle varieties\, fiber\, felting history\, and many techniques and tricks are offered to keep your felting moving forward. Finally\, participants will gain insight into the basic principle of wet felting in a way that is straight forward and accessible using readily available equipment. \nBEGINNERS ARE WELCOME! People\, animals and foliage combine to breathe life into my folk art scenes. The technical portion of each handmade wool felt tapestry is created in a three stage process. \nThe first stage is to create a piece of felt from carded wool that will be used as a blank canvas. Felt is made the same way today as it has been since ancient times. Wool\, water and pressure are combined\, forcing strands of the fiber to entangle. As the agitation and pressure is applied and the strands wrap around one another\, a durable fabric is created. \nThe second stage is to decorate the surface of the felt with design. A felting needle has barbs located on the bottom inch. Carded wool is pushed through the surface of the felt with the needle. The needle has a sharp point allowing me to attain precision and detail when needling the colors. \nOnce decorated\, the final step is to saturate the entire tapestry with hot water and begin applying pressure once again. This allows the needled fibers to entangle with the felt base\, unifying the design work and creating a solid piece of dense fabric.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience with herbalism\, these sessions will give you hands-on experience in crafting your own remedies. \nMaking a medicinal salve. Participants will learn to select herbs\, infuse oils\, and create a healing balm suitable for cuts\, burns\, and other skin irritations. You’ll leave with a jar of your own handcrafted salve and the skills to make more at home. \nCreating herbal tonics. The session will teach the basics of making herbal tonics to support everyday health\, including how to extract beneficial properties from herbs and formulate blends for different wellness needs. Rebecca Rule has made it her mission over the last 20 years to collect stories of New Hampshire\, especially those that reflect what’s special about this rocky old place. She’ll tell some of those stories – her favorites are the funny ones – and invite audience members to contribute a few stories of their own. \nWho is Rebecca Rule? \nRebecca Rule hosts Our Hometown on NHPBS. Each program features a different New Hampshire town\, its stories about what makes their town special told by its citizens. \nShe’s been telling stories in New England\, especially New Hampshire\, for many years. She hasn’t visited every town in the Granite State\, but has found her way to most of them — speaking at libraries\, schools\, historical societies\, church groups\, and charitable organizations. She likes collecting stories because “they’re free and you don’t have to dust them.” Our stories are our identity. DESCRIPTION:Shaker Chair Seat Weaving Workshop\nWednesday\, February 12th\, 2025\n1:00 – 4:00 pm\nEnfield Shaker Museum \n447 NH Route 4A \nEnfield\, NH 03748 \n\nLearn to weave a chair seat with Shaker tape and help Enfield Shaker Museum! In all Shaker communities\, fabric tape was preferred over rush or wood splint for chair seats. Fabric tape is longer lasting and is simple to weave. Any chair seat with rails on all four sides may be woven with tape. \n\n\nOur wonderful reproduction Shaker ladderback chairs\, used for all of our events and meetings\, need some tender loving care. Using one of our chairs and chair tape\, we will teach you the art and mystery of chair seat weaving. Or you can bring tape—or purchase tape in our Gift Shop—to reweave your own chair\, for a modest fee. \nAll levels of chair seat weavers (total novice to experienced) are welcome. We have an abundance of chairs that need new seats! \nRefreshments served. \n\n\nAll participants need to bring scissors and a hammer. \n\n\nFree for participants who will be weaving Museum chairs \n\n\n$25 for participants weaving their own chairs + materials \n\n\nClass size limited to 10.
