SUMMARY:2026 Mary Keane Chapel Summer Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:Mary Keane Chapel Summer Concert Series\nSunday\, September 13\, 2026\n4:00 pm Start\nAll concerts will be held in the Mary Keane Chapel\nEnfield Shaker Museum\n447 NH Route 4A\nEnfield\, NH 03748\nshakermuseum.org \nSuggested donation $15.00. All concert donations support the ongoing restoration of the organ. \nAll concerts will be followed by a reception in the Museum Herb Garden (weather permitting) or in the Great Stone Dwelling. \nOrgan Recital\nNH Chapter of American Guild of Organists\nMembers of the New Hampshire chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be featured in the final concert of the 2026 season. Five organists will perform works that display the organ’s capacity and breadth of color. The program will include Hungarian Rhapsodies\, The Bells of St Anne de Beaupre by Alexander Russell\, Pachelbel Toccata in E minor\, Trumpet Tune by Nicholas Bowden\, compositions by Gerald Near\, Thomas Crawford\, Brenda Portman\, J. S. Bach\, and More. \nOrgan Restoration Update \nBob Waters and Richard Nickerson are continuing to address important restoration needs on the Casavant organ in the Museum’s Mary Keane Chapel. This fall and winter they removed and completely rebuilt the wind chest that receives and regulates the air pressure produced by the organ’s electric blower. This included replacing all the original leather work that controls the release of air to the organ pipes. In addition to maintaining the organ’s tuning\, they have been repairing coupling mechanisms that have failed. Unfortunately the Casavant company no longer makes certain replacement parts\, so some aspects of the restoration work requires creative problem solving. We are fortunate to have two craftsmen\, well versed in the intricacies of Casavant organ construction\, caring for this precious instrument. \nThank you for your support of their ongoing restoration work.

SUMMARY:Make A Turkey Wing Whisk Broom
DESCRIPTION:  \nTurkey Wing Whisk Broom Workshop\nSaturday\, September 5\, 2026\n10:00 am – 4:00 pm\nDuring the 19th century\, the Enfield Shakers produced as many as “2000 dozen” brooms per year. Begun at Watervliet\, New York community\, in 1798\, the Shaker broom industry quickly became one of the most important industries for Shaker communities across the country. Brooms can also be seen as a symbol of an important Shaker ideal. Cleanliness was a spiritual and moral imperative. When Mother Ann Lee told her followers\, “Sweep clean\,” she was referring not only to the floor of the home\, but also the floor of the heart. \n \nJoin our resident broom squire Larry Antonuk for a Turkey Wing Whisk Broom Workshop. Begin by learning to make a simple bundle whisk broom\, including the knots and materials used to make all brooms. After you master the skills necessary to use a “tumble spool”\, you will move on to the more challenging turkey wing whisk broom. \nThese traditional\, functional\, high quality and long lasting brooms are made from natural broom corn. \nThis Turkey Wing Whisk Broom workshop takes place in the historic  Great Stone Dwelling dining room. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Brethren’s West Shop and the historical equipment the Shaker Brother’s used to create their iconic brooms. \nClass size limited to 8. Advance registration required. \nPlease bring a bag lunch\, closed-toe shoes and a water bottle. \nCost:  \nMuseum Members – $65/per person (includes materials) \nNon-Members – $75/per person (includes materials) \n*Please select the quantity of tickets you would like before clicking the “Get Tickets” button. \nAll proceeds from this workshop go to support the educational mission of Enfield Shaker Museum. \nComing from a distance? Why not plan to stay overnight in the historic Great Stone Dwelling? Check out room availability here. \nMore about our Broom Squire Larry Antonuk:\n\nSometime in 2010\, Larry Antonuk found himself on a tour of the Enfield Shaker Museum. While watching a Broom Making demonstration he became fascinated with the process\, and wound up coming back for a private tutorial with Master Broom Maker Susan Brown. \n\n\nOne thing led to another\, and Larry is now a frequent demonstrator at the Museum. He has researched and reproduced a variety of Shaker designs\, and now sells his work in our Gift Shop. Larry is a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen\, and can often be seen demonstrating at the Sunapee Fair.

SUMMARY:Market Basket Workshop
DESCRIPTION:  \nMarket Basket Workshop\nwith Dona Nazarenko\nSaturday\, August 22nd\, 2026\nRESCHEDULED\n9:00 – 5:00pm\n \nJoin us in the Great Stone Dwelling dining room for a full day workshop! Market baskets are one the most classic and traditional baskets made years ago and still basketmakers continue to make them even today. A charming and useful addition to every home\, these baskets can be personalized by adding a touch of color into the weave and by inserting a delicate handle. Participants will use natural reed\, paired with a wood handle\, and can choose to add color accents if desired.  All skill levels welcome.  Some basketmaking experience helpful. This rectangular basket measures approximately 11″ x 6 1/2″ \n  \nWho is Doña Nazerenko? \nResiding in Tunbridge\, Vermont\, Doña Nazarenko has been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1994. While living along the New Jersey coast\, Doña developed an interest in woodcrafts and related art forms that developed into her desire to take basket making classes in 1988. \nHer exploration of a different art medium has since evolved into a flourishing talent. She now enjoys making traditional baskets using reed with wooden accents to more challenging baskets using birch bark from the area surrounding her current residence in rural Vermont. \nThe highlight of the early years at her craft was having a one-on-one critique with John McGuire at Peter’s Gallery in 1992. His confidence in her and his discretion continues to help her with her current work. Today she can be seen demonstrating basketry representing Vermont fiber artists at local and out-of-state events. Most days she can be found working in her studio at Country Spirit Baskets \nPlease bring your own lunch. Water and light refreshments will be provided. \nCost: \nMuseum Members – $70 \nNon-Members – $80 \nAll proceeds go to the educational mission of Enfield Shaker Museum. \nComing from a distance? Stay at the historic Great Stone Dwelling. Check our room availability here.

Ako Shiffer\, French horn\, performed in small ensemble\, chamber\, and orchestral groups in the Washington D.C area for 20 years Victoria Moore\, trombonist\, has prerformed with the Upper Valley Symphony Orchestra\, Upper Valley Community Band\, and Tall Granite Big Band. Dan Brown\, former Principal Tubist for the Baltimore Symphony and freelance musician in the Washington/Baltimore area. \nOrgan Restoration Update\nBob Waters and Richard Nickerson are continuing to address important restoration needs on the Casavant organ in the Museum’s Mary Keane Chapel.

SUMMARY:Berry Basket Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Berry Basket Workshop\nwith Dona Nazarenko\nSaturday\, July 25\, 2026\n10:00 – 5:00pm\nJoin us in the Great Stone Dwelling dining room for a full day workshop!  Berry baskets were traditionally hand woven of oak or ash. They were designed to hold individual servings of berries. A Berry Basket has many uses such as for the gardener\, or hobbyist and they also make a great storage container. Participants will use natural reed\, paired with a wood handle\, and can choose to add color accents if desired.  All skill levels welcome.  This square basket measures approximately 6 ½” x 6 ½” x 11 ½” high with handle. \nWho is Doña Nazerenko? \nCost: \nMuseum Members – $65 \nNon-Members – $75 \nAll proceeds go to the educational mission of Enfield Shaker Museum. \nComing from a distance? Stay at the historic Great Stone Dwelling. Check our room availability here.

Also included in the program will be works by Louis Andriessen\, Fenno Heath\, and Eric Whitacre. \nThe choir includes singers from the Upper Valley and the Brattleboro area and is directed by Mark Nelson. A multifaceted musician with wide-ranging musical interests\, Mark Nelson has over 30 years’ experience conducting instrumental and choral ensembles. \nOrgan Restoration Update\nBob Waters and Richard Nickerson are continuing to address important restoration needs on the Casavant organ in the Museum’s Mary Keane Chapel.

SUMMARY:Free Outdoor Concert - Twangtown Paramours
DESCRIPTION:2026 Free Outdoor Concert Series\nTwangtown Paramours\nWednesday\, July 8\, 2026\nLive music starts at 7 pm. Vending begins at 6 pm.\n  \nJoin us outside the historic Stone Machine Shop for a FREE concert with The Twangtown Paramours! \nNashville-based husband-and-wife duo Mike T. Lewis and MaryBeth Zamer\, known on stage as The Twangtown Paramours\, have made a name for themselves defying boundaries with their award-winning catalogue of Americana\, folk\, and blues anthems. With a slew of accolades for their three full-length albums\, they’ve earned a loyal following\, balancing serious instrumental and vocal chops with witty stage banter and a lighthearted approach to life. They don’t take themselves\, or the world\, too seriously. With their third album\, Double Down on a Bad Thing\, The Twangtown Paramours shift gears to showcase a full band\, electric\, groove-oriented\, upbeat\, soul-infused\, and retro blues sound. “We want people to have fun\, to cheer up\, to dance\, and to start sporting a positive attitude\, dammit\,” says Mike. \nHit songwriter\, session musician\, and producer Mike Lewis was born in NYC\, but his sound is informed by a mix of experiences across the country’s major music centers\, including NYC\, L.A.\, Austin\, and Nashville. He began learning classical and jazz guitar at age eight\, studying under Leonid Bolotine\, William Matthews\, and Barry Galbraith\, before earning degrees at Columbia in New York City and the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. He wrote a #1 platinum pop hit ranked the 2nd biggest-selling female ballad of all time in Korea\, and occasionally plays upright bass for Jimmie Dale Gilmore. \nBorn in Washington D.C.\, lead singer MaryBeth Zamer was raised on a mix of opera and American songbook music\, singing along to Dean Martin and Ella Fitzgerald\, before discovering Little Feat\, Bonnie Raitt\, and the blues in high school. A fixture in the Washington\, D.C. club scene for years\, MaryBeth performed with popular local cover band\, Ignition and sang backup vocals for Eva Cassidy’s band\, Method Actor. “Eva was a huge influence on my singing style\,” MaryBeth says. “She taught me to go beyond having fun and hitting the right notes\, to sing in a way that conveys real emotion.” \nBring your chairs and blankets and enjoy this free outdoor concert at the Enfield Shaker Museum Stone Machine Shop. \nBeer\, wine\, soda\, and snacks will be available to purchase during the concert. (No private alcohol allowed.) \nAloha and Bloom will be on site with their food truck. \nLive music will start at 7 pm. Vending will begin at 6 pm. \nRain or shine (we will move inside in case of rain.) Plenty of free parking. \n  \n  \n  \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS:\n \n
