Position Summary:

The Visitor Outreach Associate serves as an ambassador for visitors and short-term overnight guests. The Visitor Outreach Associate learns and conveys knowledge of the Shakers, the historic site, and exhibitions. The Visitor Outreach Associate provides retail and customer service support in the Museum’s Gift Shop.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Treat all visitors with respect, dignity, and kindness.
  • Interpret the history, material culture, and spirituality of the Shakers for Museum visitors, by presenting information about Shaker history and religion through tours.
  • Interpret the Enfield Shaker Village site (listed in the National Register of Historic Places) so that visitors gain a better understanding of the Shaker buildings and the historic landscape.
  • Assist with Museum gift shop operations by providing retail and customer service.
  • Answer, screen, and respond to telephone inquiries.
  • Assist with Museum operations by performing daily opening and closing tasks and light maintenance.
  • Assist the Museum’s senior staff with additional tasks as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical demands:

Ability to lift 30 to 40 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods. Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs.

  • Museum experience desirable

Educational Requirements: 

High school diploma or GED required; college coursework or degree desirable.

Part-time, seasonal, flexible schedule (but must be able to work some weekends).
