Basket Weaving Workshop

Enfield Shaker Museum is pleased to host expert local basket weaving instructor, Judy Labrie, for a basket weaving workshop. Participants of this workshop will be crafting a beginners basket called the “weed basket” using the extremely versatile and popular weaving material of reed. Weavers of all skill levels are encouraged to join in the fun, while gaining familiarity and confidence with the materials, tools, and procedures used to create your very own work of art! 

All materials will be provided and students will go home with a colorful and handy basket that can be hung on the wall to catch mail, take out menus, or kitchen gadgets.

Class size is limited to 5. Pre-registration is required. Participants should bring a bag lunch. 

Members: $70 + $30 materials fee (Total – $100)

Non-Members: $77 +$30 materials fee (Total -$107)

Want to know more about Judy Labrie?

Judy Labrie is the owner and single employee of “Basket Case Judy”. She has been making baskets since 1990 and teaching classes for over 12 years. She has repaired baskets, caned chairs, and created new baskets for customers.

It all started when Judy went to a Longerberger basket party at a friend’s house. She looked at the basket and said, “ I can make one of these.”…So half the basement turned into Judy’s workshop and she started making baskets and going to craft fairs. Then life got in the way and she took a little hiatus, moved a few times, and then settled down in Canaan, NH with her husband. 

Judy is scheduled to attend several craft fairs and farmers markets this summer.
