Versatile Tote Basket

Meet us in the Chosen Vale Performance Center at the Enfield Shaker Museum to get ready ready for the outdoor “picking” season! This basket is perfect for any of your berry or apple picking needs, or for any hobby, crafting, and gardening needs as well. It is woven with natural and dyed reed, and when not being used it hangs nicely from the attached Shaker tape strap. Class will have reed color choices as well as some Shaker tape color choices available. The final basket will be about 10″ x 5 1/2″ x 7″ high. This is a more advanced style so students should have some basket experience

Who is Doña Nazerenko?

Residing in Tunbridge, Vermont, Doña Nazarenko has been weaving since 1988 and teaching since 1994. While living along the New Jersey coast, Doña developed an interest in woodcrafts and related art forms that developed into her desire to take basket making classes in 1988.

Her exploration of a different art medium has since evolved into a flourishing talent. She now enjoys making traditional baskets using reed with wooden accents to more challenging baskets using birch bark from the area surrounding her current residence in rural Vermont.

The highlight of the early years at her craft was having a one-on-one critique with John McGuire at Peter’s Gallery in 1992. His confidence in her and his discretion continues to help her with her current work. Today she can be seen demonstrating basketry representing Vermont fiber artists at local and out-of-state events. Most days she can be found working in her studio at Country Spirit Baskets
