Winter Sowing Perennials and Native Plants

January 22, 2027, 4:30 – 6:00 pm

Instructors: Renata Baptista, Garden Coordinator & Caroline Grip, Education Coordinator

Chosen Vale Performance Center at the Enfield Shaker Museum

Join the Garden and Education Coordinators at the Enfield Shaker Museum for an introduction to winter seed sowing, an accessible and effective method for starting seeds outdoors during the colder months. Participants will learn how to prepare and plant seeds in plastic containers that can remain outdoors throughout the winter, allowing natural cycles of cold and moisture to support germination in the spring.

The workshop will explore seed selection, winter sowing techniques, and the benefits of growing perennial flowers and native plants. Participants will have the opportunity to work with a variety of seeds, including herbs, ornamental flowers, and native wildflowers that support pollinators and local ecosystems.

Seed Selections

  • Poppy (Papaver somniferum)
  • Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)
