Music and Theater Near Enfield Shaker Museum

It is not necessary to travel a distance to find great music and theater performances. Here in the Upper Valley, near the Museum, you’ll find many wonderful “unexpected discoveries”.

Enfield Shaker Museum Summer Concert Series is held on the lawn behind the Stone Mill across Route 4A from the Great Stone Dwelling. Now in its second year, this popular series is free and open to the public. Vending begins at 6 p.m.; Music begins at 7 p.m. Food truck on site, plus beer, wine, hard, cider, soda and snack for sale. Shaker Bridge Theatre, is located 2.1 miles (5 minutes) from the Museum at 23 Main Street, Enfield, NH. Now entering its 15th season, the Shaker Bridge Theatre is dedicated to discovering and creating provocative contemporary theatre. This is theatre created by a passionate director and talented, vital artists who present work that is contemporary, compelling and innovative. Lebanon Opera House, is 7.2 miles (12 minutes) from the Museum at 51 North Park Street, Lebanon, NH. Lebanon Opera House, an historic 800-seat performing arts center, is the largest proscenium theater in the Upper Connecticut River Valley and presents live musical and theatrical performances, comedy, lectures, and outdoor festivals, as well as films-both black-and-white and contemporary. Hopkins Center for the Arts, is 12 miles (21 minutes) from the Museum at 4 East Wheelock Street (Dartmouth College),
Hanover, NH. While the Hopkins Center for the Arts has kicked off its expansion and renovation, there will be no shortage of Hop-sponsored arts events in venues around campus and throughout the region for the duration of the construction period. Stay tuned in for films now at the Hop.

Northern Stage is a regional non-profit professional theater company located 13.8 miles (19 minutes) from the Museum at 74 Gates Street, White River Junction, VT. Founded in 1997, it has become the preeminent year-round theater company in the region, offering professional productions of world premieres, classics, and musicals. JAG Productions is a new, audacious, joyous, and cutting edge theatre group performing 13.8 miles (19 minutes) from the Museum at the Briggs Opera House, 5 South Main Street, White River Junction, VT. JAG Productions is a Black theater company with a mission to tell stories that challenge hierarchies of race, gender, class, and sexuality. It does have a theatre of its own yet. Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon (JOSA), one of New England’s premier performing jazz series, is located 17.5 miles (21 minutes) from the Museum at 6 Club House Lane in Grantham, NH. Sessions are well known for featuring internationally renowned jazz artists who annually tour the U.S. and abroad. Each annual series runs every other Sunday from December to April. In addition to a wonderful afternoon of music, the JOSA experience includes the culinary delights of the Forbes Tavern.

New London Barn Playhouse is located 18.5 miles (29 minutes) from the Museum. The New London Barn Playhouse is the oldest continuously operating summer theater in New Hampshire. Still located in a converted barn, the Playhouse has come a long way since the days when tickets were 50 cents and pillows a nickel. Flying Goose Pub is located 29.4 miles (30 minutes) from the Museum at 40 Andover Road, New London, NH. A warm, easygoing hangout with a fireplace & mountain views offering pub grub, as well as it own house-brewed drafts and hard ciders. The Flying Goose Brew Pub is also known regionally for its live music events throughout the year, in a wide range of genres.
