Saturday, October 4th, 2025
2:00 – 4:00 pm
THIS WORKSHOP IS CANCELLED. PLEASE EMAIL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT FUTURE CLASSES. (education@shakermuseum.org)
Join us for a fun and inspiring cake decorating event where you’ll explore a gallery of beautifully decorated cakes and discover creative techniques that don’t require expert piping skills. Learn easy, effective “how-to” tips and decorating tricks you can use at home. Get hands-on with tools, try piping frosting, and experiment with “chocolate plastic.” Take home an informative handout and plenty of ideas to spark your cake creativity!
After the gallery exploration you will have the opportunity for some hands-on practice of some techniques with Susan. They will be different frosting lines as well as a frosting flower. Susan will be available to offer tips and tricks during the practice.

Who is Susan Hodges?
I am retired. I have a background in fine arts, calligraphy, and graphic design (as well as a BS in Biology and MS in Plant Pathology). From 2004-2014 I made the custom wedding cakes and special occasion cakes for Trumps Catering (no connection to the president) where we lived in Athens, GA, a wonderful experience for me! Now I live in South Strafford, VT, and from time to time make special cakes for local friends and organizations, though I am not “in business”. I love to share some of what I’ve learned with others!
