Join local artist Emma Percy for a day making paper in the herb garden! People have been using plant fibers to make paper for nearly 2,000 years, and in the present day the practice offers endless possibilities as a creative and artistic medium. This class will go through the traditional western-style papermaking process step-by-step: understanding different types of fiber and where they come from, processing the plants and making pulp, forming sheets, adding decorative inclusions from in and around the garden, and pressing and drying the sheets. Everyone will make several pieces of paper to use for their own art and craft projects, for writing letters, or simply to appreciate as art in its own right. You’ll also learn some strategies for making paper at home in a relatively small space without the need for much specialized equipment!
*Please wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet, and be mindful of the weather for this outdoor workshop. We will have pop-up tents for light rain, and have an indoor location if it is too wet or stormy outside.
